We just recently sold our copy of Half Life 2 for the PC. The person that bought it from us installed all 5 disks and cant play because its still registered under my name. What can we do so that the person can play the game?

I don't think there is anything you can do other than maybe buy Orange Box and then give away your previous version of HL2 to him. It can be done as the Orange Box comes with HL2 as well, and Valve realised that most people already have it so they let you give one away to a friend.

Other than that, there isn't much you can do other than tell him to just play it offline without installing Steam. That's why you shouldn't ever see HL2 being sold preowned in a shop, it's quite probable that the previous owner still owns it via Steam...

Thanks for the quick reply. I dont want to be on steam any more at all since I have this for the 360 now. I want to be completely deleted from them since I dont have the game. I am hoping that maybe somehow we didnt completly uninstall HL2 from my PC. Hopefully that will fix the problem.

As far as Steam is concerned, HL2 is still your game no matter what. The only thing you can really do is give the account details to your friend and let them use it, I guess.

Not sure how legal that is, though ;)

Contact the customer service of the company that published Half-Life 2 and simply change your account information to your friend.

A guy by the name of Doug called me back and said that the CD KEY would need to be reset for the new person to play the game. This means the new person would have to send the game to Valve then they would reset the CD KEY but it costs $10.00 if they do it.

See now this is a reason why I hate the new Half Life game and Valve. They are so far up their rear end from the first game they think they can now do anything.

"Oh we'll have to reset the CD key cause you rightfully sold it as it was your property, and by the way we're gonna charge you $10"

Thats like saying you can sell the game once you finished/no longer playing it but we get a % cut of the sale. Disgraceful in my opinion.

We are just going to refund his money and let him keep the game. We will just basically give him the game for free and he can do whatever with it. If he wants to pay $10.00 to have Valve reset the CD KEY then thats what he can do. I think he mainly bought it for Counter Strike.

That isn't so unusual in the gaming and even the application world. Every company does this. Microsoft charges you $60 if memory serves me correctly. $10 isn't so bad, that having been said if you buy a used PC game you should expect to either have to do this or simply hack the game if you don't care about the morality of it.
