Sorry if this has been answered before, but I need to know what are the disadvantages of importing a PSP from Japan here to the UK. I hear all games can be played on it, region free, but what about UMD's or anything else?

I may be thinking of selling my PSP and importing a white PSP from Japan as I don't know when it will be realesed here (if you have any info, please post). Also, what are good places where you can order it from?

Thanks.

The only disadvantage would not being able to play UMDs region coded outside of Japan. That includes UMDs from the UK and the US.

You can import one from Lik-Sang.com for $279 USD, a $30 markup from a normal black PSP, plus shipping to the UK.

I can buy one here for €270. At E-Plaza. And I think you rather play games then view movies.. And another disadvantage is that the manual is in Japanese :D I have the black Japan PSP, no problems at all, I don't watch movies and I've printed the US manual at my dad's office..

Yep, I think that is what I'll do. I never watch UMD movies on it. I'm probably getting a free Spiderman 2 UMD from yourpsp.com, but I can sell that on Amazon for some buck. The manual you can find online somewhere right?

And thanks for the link Viper Zero. 👍

Edit: Is www.play-asia.com a good place too? My Dad orders tones of stuff from play.com so I would think they're the same?

You cant play multiplayer with an imported PSP unless someone else has the Japanese one too! i wouldnt want to take this risk as GTA LCS will have multiplayer and its alot to miss out on!!! Cant you buy the white shell from somewhere?

That is BULL ****..

I have an imported PSP, my friend has European, why can we play together on WIFI?

You can't play on WIFI with a Japanese game VS US/European game..
You can play downloaded game VS original game..

That is what i had heard - I didnt know you could play the other way you had mentioned...

and just for future reference - NO NEED TO USE SIZE 7 TEXT AND CAPITALS FOR ME TO READ YOU CALLING BS ON SOMETHING I MADE A MISTAKE

Ok, I've had a think about this with my Dad, who helped. I think I won't get it now, as I'll just be spending out alot out of my own money for just a white PSP! Might as well spend the money on more sensible things. :D It was good to know for future refrence anyway so thanks for the help guys.

LOL!!

Ah well GT, you are right.. You lose alot of money just for a white PSP..

Why wouldn't a Japanese PSP and a US PSP play online with the same game if they are a) region free games, and b) using WiFI which I believe is region free as well?

Read again.. I said a Japanese PSP game can't find the US PSP game. Don't ask me why, but I tried and they can't find eachother. How could WiFi be regioned? It are the codes from the region of the game.

Sorry, I hope I didn't seem offensive or condescending with my post.

I'm still not sure I entirely understand the problem you are getting with your PSP. But you might try to make sure that your firmware versions are the same. That's the only general solution I can think of.

Some games, like Burnout Legends, need Version 2.x. But I have the downloaded version and I can play it to, and I have version 1.5...

It's not just imports that have dead pixels, I have 4. I only notice them when the screen goes black though.

Every lcd screen on earth has dead pixels......they may not be as noticeable sometimes but they are there.....the average is 4.......I have 2 on my 19" computer screen some im lucky.....they dont really matter because a few out of millions is not going to make much difference

What causes dead pixels anyway? it confuses me!

It's to do with the manufacturing process.....because there are so many individual pixels on a screen there is a certain amount that will be accidently made to sub standard quality due to slight deformations in the material....this then leads to the liquid crystal not being able to flow through it properly which creates the odd colour on the pixel. All in all having a few dead pixels is worth the extra quality that such a screen brings. The fact that the technology is not totally perfected yet also has something to do with it but its not something you should worry about unless loads are malfunctioning.......CRT does not have this problem as it is a projection........but they use more power are alot larger and less sharp.
