I just took this ridiculous math test, and it really shows how some people are on a whole different level of math then others. Give this problem a whirl:
"Imagine a cube with sides of length 12. Two faces will be significant here, face ABCD and face BCEF, which are next to each other. A ray of light is shot from vertex A so that it strikes face BCEF at point P, which is 7 away from side BC and 9 away from side BF. If the distance the light must travel to hit another vertex is defined as (m * square root of n), where m and n are positive integers, find m + n."
I left it blank.

O why of course the answer is the square root of 4 divided by 74 which is then squared and multpied by .20489 (m + n) :):D

Nah, I didn't study - it was one of those national high school acheivement tests. It was a qualifier for the math olympiad, which I know I don't want to do now!

That's a problem which just looks complicated. As soon as you draw it out, it's reasonably easy.

My thoughts exactly...and I haven't done ANY math since I passed calc 10 years ago :D

After reading this, i know i've made the right decision by dropping math class:D
Why do you need math for anyway?

Come to New Zealand everythings cheap and you get a crap education and no where in life.... except for hanging about in GTplanet...... that amths question looks like a whole lot of crap!

It can't be as bad as the American school system where a math teacher spends 2 weeks teaching a class about the Pythagorean Theorem. Utter BS.

All that needs to be said is "a[squared] + b[squared] = c[squared]."

Either the rest of the students in my class are fecking donkeys or my school sucks. Possibly both.

Your school must suck, no offense. My Geometry teacher is brilliant, and possibly one of the smartest people I have ever known. He has told us that he is also amused by the American system... for example, our 6th grade text books were structured like this:

Chapter 2-1: Adding Decimals to the tenths
Chapter 2-2: Adding Decimals to the hundredths
Chapter 2-3: Adding Decimals to the thousandths
yada yada

But, he has a totally different style that allows me and my fellow students to both quickly learn the math and actually retain most of the knowledge.

My History teacher is also amused by the American system. He said that while taking teaching credential classes, the instructor told them not to write in red, because it might hurt the student's feelings. He also informed us that out of all the 1st world countries, the U.S. ranks LAST in public education. Whoppee. He was also told that he had to make class "fun." So, he told us how he was ashamed that our country's education system worries more about making class "fun" than actually teaching us. *nods head* Oh boy, I could go on and on... I'll just say it: Americans are stupid. Someday, we'll crumble... :D I'm so optimistic... :)

Well, my English class is possibly the best class I have ever had, just because I have learned so much and the teacher keeps it entertaining. I wouldn't mind failing his class so i could take it next year, which about 1/4 his students do. [not purposely]

Idiots.

This guy has been studying the JFK assassination for about 30 years now.

Good old, Mr. Tatro.
