Hey there! I have this little problem....
Since GTPlanet is recognized as a "gaming" website I can't access it from the office. Is there something I can do to make it work?
I don't care about writing messages I just want to read other people's comments and GT5 news. :)

We can't advise you on any way to circumvent your work's internet filters - it may lead to you losing your job.

Go with the obvious, get a new job. :sly:

Unfortunately there are too many uknown variables to even try and help. Look at the bright side, your productivity in work will increase and you can look forward to enjoying GTplanet once you get home.

Or, get a mobile phone with internet access, like all the cool kids.

My works PC doesn't allow access to GTP either.

Luckily, I work in a public library with 25 public access PCs and free wireless. There is a reason I have a laptop on my desk....

Bizarrely (and hopefully not tempting fate) my work PC does allow access to GTP yet doesn't allow access to any other gaming sites.

I don't like to take the mick too much so do most of my GTP browsing on my phone coz I'm down with the kidz like that...also it's a bit more covert than having a great big laptop next to my PC screen ;)

We could get Jordan to explain to Websense that it's a tasteless pornography website that phishes online auctions and adds malicious spyware to your computer, while giving you the latest slanderous hate-filled news and religious/occultist information, and entertaining you with new recipes and cooking techniques.

Sorry...been there, been blocked by that. No fun, but that's what work is for.

Or we could just say we have a GT5 section. Same difference, really. :p

Ah, but my works PC is attempting to run XP and Office 2003 and ie 6 on 248mb of RAM and most of the time it fails to do so in a timely fashion. I would consider that it is possibly the worst PC known to man, so I need the laptop to help do it's job. Tabbed browsing on the laptop for the win.

:ouch: I thought my old work PC was rubbish but that's about 4 times worse. Unfortunately my new one with W7 [/brag] has Office 2007 so it's almost impossible to work in word or excel now :indiff:

I was in a worse boat than that only 3 months ago. The massive company i work for, whom everyone in the UK will know by the sheer number of employees in vans we have, had us using Panasonic Toughbooks with 128mb ram and Windows 98. For internet access we had to use GSM dial-up, which is about 9.6kbps, or 0.09 MB/s. Thank god GTplanet is quite a quick loading 'lite' website.

We now have newer toughbooks with XP and dual-core processors, works so much better.

On a similar note, this company also blocks some of the 'big' gaming sites, GTP remains safe.

There are handy dandy websites called "proxies". Google proxy.

Keep that to yourself! It's a secret lol. It might get him in trouble with his employer.

Also, it's not guaranteed to work. Really depends on what systems are in place to control traffic. As i said earlier, too many variables.

I know from experience what happens to people caught using a proxy. I get to sit them down, have a friendly talk with them about circumventing company security practices, and then hand them two sheets. One sheet is a fresh copy of our Internet usage policy and the second sheet is a write-up form notifying them that this is an official warning and further violations may lead to termination.

Don't do it.

What he said. It's not worth the risk. Using a proxy is circumventing the company's policy. That's a bad move.

I was just giving him information, seemed like he really didn't know a way to circumvent it. It is his choice and it will be his judgement that will ultimately help him make a decision.

Got it, of course I won't do anything. Security in the place I work is pretty tight.

My high school internet used Websence. Just about every website under the sun was blocked. But the kids still found ways to get around it. It usually involved proxies. And once the proxy was used, the school IT would catch it and block it.

And now the bad thing is, this year my school district decided to do away with Websence and let the kids go wherever. They just trust that the kids will stay on task. And they do this AFTER I graduate.

Nevermind that Websence is pretty good at catching proxies, I've noticed.

That's how I became addicted to Google Earth/Maps and its spin-offs.
