Improved Loading Times was an Illusion

After polyphony supposively improved the loading times, it was a mind trick or illusion all this time. When you entered a race before Polyphony supposively improved the load times, it stayed on the loading screen forever. After the updates, Polyphony ingeniously shortened the wait time on the load screen but now goes to the pre-race screen and loads there instead. By dumping you into the pre-race screen makes you think the race is going to begin right away, but at the same time loads there that creates the illusion that the load time is shorter. They are very, very smart at Polyphony!

^it could also be you HDD. Mine is actually still pretty short for what it's worth. Clear cache and history in your browser then try it.

Yes it still takes the same amount of time before the race is ready. This was obvious to most people right when they made the change. It is at least a little more pleasant seeing the scenery for a few seconds rather than a black screen and a loading bar. If you have to do work in the setup menus it does help save some time since you can go into a menu as soon as the first car loads(or slightly before if you time it right) and adjust things while the rest of the cars continue loading.

So it's not a massive improvement to total loading time but it's still better than the original version. GT5's track loading times have never been particularly or unusually long anyway. The time spent waiting for menus to load over and over is much more annoying, at least for me.

I let the first AI car load and check my settings real quick to confirm I have appropriate geering, differential, etc. By the time I'm done, it's loaded.

I prefer it this way. I rather use the loading time to check my settings instead of stare at a black screen the whole time.

supposively
Supposedly.

And it doesn't shorten the time from event entry to racing. It shortens the time from event entry to everything else - so you don't have to wait to do your settings, for example.

If they were smart, they would have done it like that the first time around.

What has a "browser" got to do with GT5 game...?

Anything that takes up memory will slow your game down because it all goes to the same HDD. Clear the Cache and the HDD will be able to operate quicker
if only marginally.

Personally, I welcomed the change in loading. Now, while the race loads, I can check settings and modify if needed. Usually, by the time I'm out of those screens(30 seconds tops) the cars are loaded and the race begins. Just my two cents.

EDIT: Time well spent if you ask me. I'm not sure why this is an issue to be honest.

Totally agree with this, tho the OP is correct also.

I noticed this right after that update came out. I just never said anything.

Don't mind loading times.

Would be nice if the loading screen was a bit more useful relative to the event.

Maybe a nice map of the track - some practical facts that are quickly digestible as you wait. (Favoured place to pass on laps other than lap 1 - Worst corner- place you as a driver fluff up the most (Cut corner/ leave track/ hit other cars/ lock up brakes/ light up the rears/ put a wheel on the grass. Maybe some random facts - chance of rain, how abrasive the track surface is, pit lane cost in lap time (Beyond time stationary). Facts about the race - Number of laps, total distance, Format of the start and suchlike.)

Or you could write a swift post on GTPlanet... and then "Post Quick Reply" later you are ready to race.

PD has no monetary affiliation with GTP though.

Someday I hope both consider and these forums become official...
