In game music

Firstly I'm sorry if this have already been covered. I did try to search for this subject, but the search function didn't seem to be working at the time.

My point is this. Should GT4 have in game music when you are driving in a race?

Points to Consider
Options to have the music on or off and set to different volumes would be nice.
Or maybe not allowing music in race/rally only cars. Eveything else allows it turned on.
After all PD spend the time putting the music in the game, they might as well use it.

Points For
It's nice to be able to listen to music when racing.
With real bands giving their songs, it kind of adds to the realness of things I feel.
It can get a little boring (espically on the longer races) without any music playing.

Points Against
When racing in real life you wouldn't be listening to music.
Some people might find the music off putting.
If it's set too loud, you may not be able to hear the engine as well as you would like
After playing the game for a few months you may get bored of the music.

I'd like to hear your thoughts on this.

:sly: It would be nice to have a wide variety of music. It is a must to have the options to change the sound volume for the music and the car sounds. To me GT3 is about the worst as far as sound goes. GT2 had good engine sounds, alot better then GT3, except I think that the tire spinning sounds was overdone. The menu sounds are very irritating, it would be nice if they could be more mellow or at least have differnt menu sound options. All in all though, music in GT4 is a low priority in my book, but it takes every aspect of the game being at 100 percent to make perhaps what could be the best playstation game ever. Having lots of options and differnt settings will allow players to tweak the game to be more to their preference, which means their GT4 experience will be much more enjoyable.
Perhaps in some future version, when we race online we will be able to listen to online radio stations such as shoutcast.com
 
I think its good to have music during the race.......after all this isnt real hardcore professional racing!.....it's still a game and a game should be enjoyable (although sometimes it can be a pain!) In GT3 I always raced with music, whether doing long important races......or just having a spin. I feel that the music gives a feel good factor......it can make you wana race faster and really give it all! There should be a range of music types on offer to suit different people and driving moods. I personally felt that GT3's music was quite good......Feeder was a great touch and judging by the music in GTP I think the music will be great again.

If music makes The Stig drive his fastest on Top Gear then hell.........its good enough for me!!! :lol: :lol: :lol:
 
PD should allow you to use the HDD to include all your own songs, that way the music won't get repetitive over time. Also being able to adjust the volume for ambience, effects and music is a must, in GT3 the music could drown out some of the cars engines.
 
PD could even make it easier than that.....you could record your CD's onto the memory card in a compressed format (such as Sony's ATRAC3) cos 5mb would hold many mp3's! In a compressed format you could probably get at least an album's worth on one memory card......and with music tastes changing regularly you could just update it!
 
The game can't stream music off a memory card, and I'm betting the PS2's RAM is going to be pretty well worked as it is without having to load all of the songs into memory as well.

well, i think as GT is simulationg mostly production cars which have sound systems you should be able to listen to music, but as it is in real life everyone could turn it off as well. ;)
 
well in GT4 Prologue you can't listen to the music ingame, only in replays which to me was annoying because sometimes I like to just race to some music and sometimes I like to hear the engine only so I hope they include an on/off feature.
 
They should just put a nice selction of music in the game cause most people will want it , and maybe it will have a on/off button so some people dont have to listen to it.
 
They should go with THPS's approach to music, it has a ton of variety (I heard there were over 80 songs!!!), you can select the playlist/order in which it will play, and everyone from rock to rap is happy :):)

Sometimes a bit of music is just what u need to get u racing, but obviously the engine should always be louder.

The range of tastes in music there are is too much for PD to try and satisfy everyone. I mean listening to Feeder sing CD player, player player is a little too much for me. I do like some of the tunes on GT4P especially the one's with the Roland 303.

Like u say Vladimir, u can always play your stereo whilst racing and enjoy any tune u like.

Judging from u'r avatar u must have seen Top Gear! Have u not seen the "Stig" drive. Ok, there is no one else on the "track" but I'm sure he is still racing. :)

That's why it should be optional.
 
....they can include as much music as they like - as long as they give the option to switch it off!!!!
 
Lets get some car tunes in, ya know like the Beach Boys car songs, and other car songs. The intro to Gone in 60 seconds ( the remake ), the song and the way they shot all the differnt clips -------- everything just fits -------- thats the way GT4 should be " simply astonishing"
 
As long as they have the option to change songs on the fly or turn the music off, it's all good. You can always turn off the sounds and put on a Cd player anyways. If you get sick of the music just shut the CD player off.

GT4 needs to implement a radio style player in the game, which NFS and other games have used successfully. I hate having long races and forgetting to choose more songs in the music log. Therefore songs get very repetitive in those long endurance races. *snores* ZzzzzzzZZZZzzzz

EDIT: On a related note. I made a thread a while back about what songs should be put in GT4. It can be found here.

Boy how times have changed. Half the songs on my list probably wouldn't be included in there now lol.
