In praise of...

The Commodore 64

My first home computer, the Commodore 64, was not merely a toy or even a machine for playing games on - it was programmable too... it could even be used as a word processor or a musical instrument - it even had a keyboard attachment that would let you play it like a piano OK, so some of the games took a while to load... "Cosmic Convoy" took so long to load, you could do a lap of the Nordschliefe in a Fiat Punto faster. But the number of great games it had was on a par with the best of them. With a whopping 64 K of RAM, the C64 boasted a staggering 512 colours (although my cousin assured me that his Amstrad CPC464 had 1024 shades of green!), and could be coupled with a dazzling area of peripherals, such as a dot-matrix printer (for those Football Manager league tables)and a floppy disk drive. Times changed rapidly and sadly the C64 was rendered obsolete by the mid to late 80's, but it will always have a special place in my heart.

I praise the Washington Redskins. They have done poorly the past few years, but this could be the year we make the playoffs. Owner Dan Snyder didn't spend a ton of money on free agents, and instead focused on drafting and further developing team chemistry. The result has been a 3-1 record so far, a good defense, and a strong running game- which is essential. For these reasons I praise the Washington Redskins. 👍

The Commodore 64 was indeed pretty cool. Never had my own, but there was one at the daycare I used to go to as a child. I was too young to really get into the programmable aspect of it, but there was an older kid there who made some basic little animated emoticon-esque things with it.

The only thing I really remember doing with it was playing this one game where you play as a ship flying through a canyon of sorts that would become narrower the farther you got. And naturally, the object of the game was to see how far you could get before crashing into the walls. I remember there being one part where there'd be a hole in the wall that you could escape, and then the game would become super-easy. Not really a glitch though... the hole seemed to be intentionally put there to me.

Oh, and now that I think about it... I also remember playing a mini-golf game. I also remember sucking horribly at it.

I'll throw in some praise for something later, but I really ought to go to bed now.

In praise of... the Nissan Skyline.

Pardon me for speaking at the opposite side for this moment but when I played Gran Turismo Concept when I was a kid, I saw the R34 and then I was in love with the car. Especially the Bay Side Blue color. Those round taillamps, the rear wing... I loved EVERYTHING about the R34. It is my dream car, I'd get one instead of a Ferrari.

Even looking at the R34's predecessors, the R34 has this certain air of dominance with it. Being the last (and the best) of the pure Skylines, this, for me, is the ultimate GT-R.
