Jalopnik
Nine months ago, an SC430 and a C70 knocked boots. The result? This, the 2009 Lexus IS250C hardtop convertible. Featuring the “world’s fastest” folding hard top (it takes just 20 seconds to reveal your baldspot). The biggest changes are the ugly taillights and the extended overhangs to make room for the spacious rear seats and large trunk — surely big enough for several sets of golf clubs. We’re going to hope the 205 HP 2.5-liter V6 makes it more fun to drive than the geriatric SC430, but we’re not holding our breath.

Yay!?

I'm under the assumption this will replace the SC430 in some way. Its about time...

I am so incredibly upset that I could cry for centuries. The IS sedan is one of the best-looking sedans in production; this thing takes all that is good about the IS and ruins it.

Unlike Infiniti, Lexus didn't seem to realize that they were building a convertible on a 4-door, and it shows really poorly in the rear. IMO, they either should have made this the next gen. SC430, or completed a 2-door IS before a convertible.

I think it looks 'decent'. Just decent. Sage's right though.

edit: what he said, too ^

i'm a loyal lexus/toyota driver BUT looking at this i'll just take the 4dr thank you.

I'll agree with everyone here, the rear definitly failed. The boot is far too long, the read lights aren't that bad, but the whole view from the doors to the back when looking at the sideview is just plain wrong, I'll have an IS350 thank you.

It looks like any other 4-door turned 2-door convertible, and like every other convertible, it looks better with the top down.

I remember all the advertising literature for the Mk3 MX-5 CC. "12 seconds" it said, everywhere. 12 seconds for the folding hard top to go down (or up). Last I checked 12 < 20.

lol true. seems everyone who makes a solid vert likes to claim the fastest. i hate to say it but this version really reminds me of a pontiac g6 or g8 whatever it is.

I don't think it's all that bad, personally, but then I really don't like the newer IS that much to begin.

I think the front looks okay, but the rear is a little messed up. How did it become from this:

Its just awful. :yuck: I agree with Reventón though, they could have made a 2 door first before making the convertible. Also, I find this rendering to be better than the actual car.....

Unfortunately, the can has all the elegance of the Silvia Varietta...not much.

It's just not that great looking, top up or down.

So um... Lexus. Put the top back on, and go back to the original ass, but lastly keep it a 2dr. mkay? Thanks

:waits a year:

Oh, and here's a pic of what it should look like. Got it? Thanks

Dear lord, that's the best looking car I've seen in a long time

So this time around they made it look like a used bar of soap...with pointy headlights.

Nice.

I agree. There is definitely too much flat sheetmetal in the rear quarter panels.

Looks okay from the front though! :p
