So far we heard alot of complaints, but one thing we can do is post positive things that can really make the racing experience better.

For me:

Custom tracks that keep you pumped for racing.

Watch vids of actual races to get you pumped to play.

Challenge yourself and practice, take time from the grind to just learn a track, .

Get a racing wheel.
 
Buying a decently quick car, taking it to your favorite track for a time trial to see how fast it is stock Then little by little mod the car to see your lap times improve. Also get rid of the entire HUD and driving line while your doing it, makes it seem even more like your modding a real life car. Gradually modding the exterior while your at it makes it cooler too.

Im doing this now with my premium S2000.
 
- Definately get a wheel.
- Drive the cars stock, it's best way imo.
- Use tires that are apropiate for the car, not too good for it. For example, Comfort tires for cars till about 400hp, Sports tires from 400.. and Racing tires just for racing cars.
- Turn all the aids off, including ABS, because imo they work too good and unrealistic, but adjust the brake bias to be more on the front brakes, like 3:2, 3:1, 2:1.
- Real tracks are way better to drive on overall.. fictional tracks are smooth as butter so the feeling you get is rubish compared to the real tracks.

That's on my mind right now.. might come up with something more..
 
^ Good points, Boris. Not smoking every event with a 1000hp Skyline on soft racing tires will give you more bang for the buck. And a wheel and a seat transforms the epxerience :)

Use car's that have about 1/4 less BHP than the two top cars in most events would be by far the biggest tip i could give.
 
Try different cars without prejudice. You can not dislike something in gt5 if you haven't driven it!

Also sometimes it is fun to just try something a bit crazy. Tvr tamora is great fun around the chamonix snow track for example :):drool:👍
 
1. Get a wheel
2. Drive and race the car as stock. With all aids off, you can feel the car's characteristics. If you lost the race and you feel that you already give your 100%, then you can proceed to upgrade the car step by step
 
GT5 has not enough real tracks for my taste.
The now brilliant renderings of original GT tracks do not make up for this.
The Track generator lacks in my opinion completely (much lower quality of graphics and trackside objects compared to full fledged tracks + being a generator, than rather an editor).

These points are the biggest let downs for me and I would be fully happy, to pay for new real tracks as DLC content (much more important now, than upgrading of standard to premium cars, etc. ).

To enjoy GT5 even after reaching the highest level and finishing the challenges (I think, there should be no level cap at all, but incrementally higher exp needs for higher level), I just buy a new interesting car, leave it completely unmodified and race it on one track, that is interesting for finding a basic setup.

If I can find a race, where the AI is challenging as well, it is all the better.
I then gradually upgrade the car and race the same track over and over, gaining input of setup changes during every run, retune and rerace.

This way, I earn the money, to upgrade the car + money, to buy the next car.
Each and every car in my garage get's a descent tune this way.

I am running out of tracks at the moment.
My favorites are of course the Ring, The GP track, Tsukuba (not for drifting, but racing).
Circuit de la Sarthe is fantastic for endurance races and those high speed tuning runs.
 
Get cars not because they're just for winning races, but because they make you feel good. The whole idea of having fun this way, I think, is to drive everything from the cars everyone wants to the nearly-forgotten motoring misfits. Allow cars and tracks to make you smile, and allow yourself to enjoy the game. Lap times and specs are nothing compared to that one car and track that you can always attack with a goofy grin, like throwing a car into drifts and 360s during a free run for no other reason than just because.
 
Drive a car that can lap the others in 1 lap. See how many times you lap them in the end.
 
One of the things I do is simply admire all the little details that they have added to this game. Like reading the description for every car I get or going into photo mode during a replay and taking a walk around the track, you'll be amazed at how much stuff is really in there, even in the rather bland looking tracks.

I also just love collecting every car I can, there is no car with too little power or looks too ugly. I never sell any car unless i already have one. I also enjoy taking the worst handling cars I can find, tune them up and see if I can reduce their shortcomings and see them really shine. Most of all I very much enjoy simply taking LOTS of photos, there is an amazing amount of detail in these cars, even some of the standards.
 
Create some cool tracks to ride on them... like I just did one awesome track around Toscana... good for 300kmh... high speed corners together with some hairpins. Then I just buy some cars and do laps around these tracks... If you can create tracks long enough, it works like some kind of small trip... you can cruise and have fun. :)

Works online too, pick some tracks and cruise with friends... fast and slowly!

Car: Recommended Prius, comfort hard tires
Regulate: max damage, no short cut, real grass/off track, no aids, ABS is ok, imo.
Invite a few friends willing to hang out for an hour an drive. Might have to plan that part, but it is crucial to getting more randoms to join the lobby, which in turn, is essential for this to work.


Let the fun begin: as more people join, some will not like it, some will be confused by the name and layout but try it, and some will think its great, if you have a mic this in itself will be fun. A half hour will pass before anyone will be able to complete a full lap with a respectable time trying as best as they can. Close to 10 minutes and you're doing well. Getting a time doesnt happen till the second lap, (i know you know that) so it requires two clean laps just to put a target "best lap" time on their TV screen untill they complete. Remember, max damage so one mistake ruins it all. A few will think this easy, most will not once they try it. If/when you do complete some laps and find some random lobby joiners who stick it out, it can be very intense yet slow fun. Part of the challenge as one guy put it is the "boring car", being there's no manual trans and some of the fun to be had is in the ridiculousness of it all. 6 or 10 guys to start a race and everyone is driving super duper careful.

Haha, spot on. I've done stuff like this hosting online, and yes your description of how people will react when coming in is also very accurate. The thing I find though is that I'm willing to drive carefully and stay on the road, which really gets the impatient drivers angry. They tend to leave. :) Hard to keep the room full sometimes.
 
HDTV, no HUD, and when starting an event check the typical opponents and choose one of those, also cockpit view is good.
 
How about not trying to finish GT in a few months?
Take your time and drive as a treat.
I enter race events maybe one day a week and for the other days I just spend time in arcade mode or taking pic, watching demo's or trying to perfectly tune my race cars for the best ride.
GT4 gave me years of fun without me ever reaching 100%. Not because I'm a poor racer but because sometimes it not about stressing yourself out and getting frustrated trying to complete the game, it's about the enjoyment.

Yea, it wont work without some friends to keep the moral up, however, the lobby name is a direct challenge to any who come across it.
 
Do the seasonal challenges! It's not about blowing away the AI with the fastest car you can drive, but actually requires skills, concentration and patience. Some of them are piss offs, it'll completely demolish your self-confidence not being able to pull off a win, but a good motivation to hone/improve your driving skills. (Damn you RX7 Tsukuba challenge!!!!)

If you are fed up grinding Indy for money, use the Extreme Euro Rome race for a bit of light relief (6 mins-ish for currently 99K cr. and 4.7K Exp). So far I have been mostly using it for overpowered Euro supercars (with Racing Softs mostly as I am not by any means a brilliant racer), but I have had fun (which for my ability is somewhat lacking in some events) and bought a good number of cars and made decent credits. It is a "proper" road circuit with some interesting (compared to Indy) corners. There are still some cars to buy and try out on that track so I have plenty of "fun" to come. I love the classic 1600cc Alfa and really ought to try it with no engine mods (170Hp) and Racing Softs to see how well it can do against the cars in that race.

The Zonda R was "interesting" to say the least and with Racing Softs (when I could keep it pointing in the right direction long enough) posted a lap of around 1:03. The "Yellow Bird" also made for an interesting time (Racing Softs to give me a fighting chance!).
 
Lupo Cup in A-spec Professional Series. Grab your Lupo Cup car, put Comfort Hard tires on it and race clean! A lot of fun :D

This is basically my standard track for earning money and finding a very nicely balanced setup all around for new cars.
It has almost all details, to stress out any weakness of a basic setup (especially front to back balance, braking balance, LSD setup and traction out of hairpins ). It is one of the more interesting "fantasy tracks". Hell will freeze, before I grind for money on an oval track.

I collect now all JGTC and Super GT race cars, so I use the Super GT races for earning money (only half of the turnover, but also a lot of fun, racing the Super GT cars - make sure, to race with hard tires and no extra tuning, as the Super GT race AI is sub par and poses no real challenge over a loner race).
 
Buying cars and tuning them up to be time attack machines, debating whether the car sould stay naturally-aspirated or give it a turbo charger.
 
The auto zam 1 , whatever you do with this car , its alot of fun :)

I like collecting sets of cars, like atm im trying to get all of the beautiful alphas and all the RUF's, theres so many cars in this game you might aswell get some you enjoy and drive them till your hearts content!
 
Online Shuffle Races. You get a decent bunch of 8-14 people, these will be some of the most fun you can have.
