When joining GTPlanet in December 2003, I was aware of this big world we live in, both online and offline. I've seen pictures of places with wonderful landscapes. Hills. Mountains. Desert. You name it. About the most pictures of a country I've seen was Japan. Whether it was forest on Hokkaido or the wonderful backdrop of Oita on Kyushu Island, this world has a lot of natural wonders, even if others don't see them as such. So I wanted to open this discussion to perhaps talk about wounderful places to admire nature, even if it is in the backdrop of a racing area.

So if you know any lovely places to visit for the wonderful nature, reply away. Wales has some green grass and lovely atmospheres, Sweden has some nice snowy areas from when I've seen rally coverage, Mt. Fuji in Japan is a glorious sight... well, you want to contribute or not? Reply away.

Up my hill a little it gets really nice. Almost looks like the Shire except I live in California, not Middle Earth.

In North Carolina, we have a Mountain house in Maggie Valley. Its a really nice place. And the mountain the house is on is awesome. If you go furthar up the mountain then come down, you go them Hairpin turns that are like the Monaco, but going down... Its a great place to bike ride.

The beach. There's no other place to see serenity and beauty. It makes ou realize how insignificant your problems are.

Isn't that what nature is? Letting you know, what the world is capable of?

This might be odd, but i think the gloomy glow at night in Los Angeles makes me feel better. Its a feeling that I can't really describe either, just like a gut feeling.

In California, there is a place called Altamont Pass, about an hour east of San Francisco. There is an amazing display of wind turbines along the hills. You drive up the first hill with rock faces on both sides of you and when you reach the top, the road slopes down, and the walls open up and all you can see are hundreds of wind turbines. You drive along for about 45 minutes and the wind turbines out number the cattle grazing along side them. On a clear day, you can see all the way out to the ocean. If you're ever in the San Francisco area, you must see Altamont Pass, it's absolutely amazing.

Couple of years ago me and the missus went to Spain - We saw the view over Barcelona that you saw when the divers jumped off the top box at the Olympics (cant remember the year) and it was amazing ! All the buildings and the skyline of Barcelona.

Staying with Barcelona, we went to the Nou Camp stadium and I was silenced for about 5 minutes with my jaw wide open !! It was massive, absolutely huge, there was a guy cutting the grass on a motorized cart and he was like a tiny spec on the pitch !

Ive also seen a city/town, cant remember the name of it at the mo, in the sierra navada when I was cycling with my Dad. We cycled up to the highest registered road in Europe - Pica Valeta I think ? But the view from the top was amazing, it was really strange because when we set off it was really really hot, and 9 hours later at the top we were building snowmen !

We've also been to Cuba in 2001 and the sights there were amazing too especially underwater ! Moray eels and snappers half the size of me !!

We've also visited Moscow for a few days and saw the Kremlin which was really good. We got a day of clear blue sky and warm(ish) sunshine and the next day was a complete contrast with really heavy snow and blizzards - Wind chill was about -20 !!!

So Ive seen some pretty good sights to say Im only 25 Cuba Russia Spain !

I also went to Brazil with my Dad when I was very young and cant remember much of it - We saw Haleys Comet, stayed right on copacabana beach in Rio, went to the Amazon, visited sugarloaf mountain and saw the statue of Jesus - I was too young to really appreciate it though.

So thats where Ive been and what Ive seen !

Jinan, China. Watching FOX Sports World show "Football Asia," the show mentioned the capital of Shangdong Province in northeast China. Jinan is told to be the "City of Spring." Geographically, it is closer to Korea than Japan, so a lot of Koreans manage to live there. But the city from what I've seen, is beautiful. I think it will play host to the AFC (Asian Football Conference) championship game. But if you find pictures of this city, this city actually looks better than some Japanese cities. You'll have to look it up online because I couldn't find any great pictures of the city. It has a nice, colorful atmosphere to it. You can surely imagine that even though this city is pretty urbanized, it has its natural wonders.

You know, nature can also relate to city life, even though hardly anyone thinks of a city as being something naturally spectacular.

This is an image that I shot back in April.

This is nature, showing that as strong as Man can build something, Nature eventually wins.

In southern California we have beaches, the smell of salt water air flowing into your nose, the feel of the sand on your feet. It's just a awesome place.

Oh, and we have a **** load of wind turbines too.

New York City is a beautiful place to see nature at work. The huge skyscrapers really show you what nature is capable of producing and give you a feeling of awe at what the world has to offer.

Say Hello to Kerrville!

WEBSITE OF MENTION: http://www.kerrville.org

GTPlanet, I had a chance to get into Schreiner University earlier today (as of 7:36 PM 7/30/04). Before my heartbreak later that morning (maybe in future posts), I had a chance to gaze at a side of Texas I've never really seen a lot of. Kerrville about an hour drive northwest of San Antonio. Apart from my life in Houston, Kerrville offered a beautiful community in the Texas hill country. I don't have pictures to share (so no "this thread is pointless without pics" reply like someone did in my Cars in General thread about the Houston Auto Show) , but here is a different view of my home state of Texas after heading into the hill country.

Kerrville is a mix of old and new. Some parts of the city look old, while there are some more modern places. I read that downtown Kerrville was recently renovated, so some of the old-style buildings in the little downtown district. The tallest building is about... four or six stories tall. When it is daylight, it is sweet. There are all sorts of tree-covered hills. Among some of the hills in the background, you may find a good number of houses on those hills, whether on the sides or on top of the hills. Some buildings are either on hills, while others are in low-lying areas. And as a joke about that, some of you NASCAR fans may approve or disapprove about this. A Home Depot store was in a low area while a Lowe's was on a hill. So what? Jimmie Johnson owns Tony Stewart, or does Tony Stewart want to knock Jimmie Johnson off the top?

In the end, though, if you ever visit Texas, much less Houston, make the six-hour drive from Houston to Kerrville. There are plenty of hills and lovely scenery. If you think Texas is all ranches and cowboys, PLEASE check out the hill country. It's lovely!

Outside of the mountains in Tioga county Pa. when I'm hunting, the best place for me is the Pacific coast highway over on the left coast. I have never gotten over the feeling that " god loves me, I must have done something right" I had when I took my first trip up and down the coast of California, the blue water , the fog around the bay area, the fact that I did not drive over the cliff. The whole experiance on that road makes a great picture show.

Nature smature, New York is perfect. Thanks danoff.

One of my wives wants to move to Hawaii though. You know what the nature is like there? There's a lot of volcanoes. Lots of lava. Some hot ash. Generally, it's just a paradise for volcanoes. So she said, "Let's move to Hawaii." And I said, "I'm not a volcano." Because Hawaii is where volcanoes move. Mt. St. Helens is looking for a winter place in Hawaii, you know. Maybe Mt. St. Helens and I should get a timeshare there! Perfect.

What?

I'm only typing this because it's post 19 so it'll end the page. And no-one will ever see it. I can ramble on all I want when I've got post 19. Ramble, ramble, ramble.

👍

the most nature i ever see is when I follow riverside trails using my bike. There's one in particular that's close to 15k long that I use all the time. It's really nice because there's trees everywhere, and you'll get the occasional glimpse of the river to your right. In addition to that, the sound of running water and the birds 👍. Only thing I dont like is when the foliage breaks because there's traffic passing through an overhead bridge :irked:.

nature is all around me, to the west of me, is the rocky mountains and a horse pasture. to the east of me are the emerald hills, to the north of me is some rims carved out by a glacier some time ago. and to the south of me is some more hills.
not to mention the tons of trees that surround me.
