India's Buddh International Circuit unveiled

I think it will awesome if India can pull it off. The circuit does look pretty unimpressive, but it's probably just the simulation not showing elevation changes. I think they should put in some sort of special thing that will separate it from the other circuits, e.g Abu Dhabi pit exit, Suzuka esses, Monaco etc.

Edit: Sorry interludes, didnt see you post.

The title sponsor for the first race has been announced as Bharti Airtel (a telecoms company). Bernie says its one of the best circuits in the world... ($$$)

Good video of Karthikeyan and Chandhok being interviewed together about the Indian Gran Prix, a very rare sight and they didn't seem all that comfortable

Robin.

Building the track is one thing, can the management be prudent enough to maintain it after the f1 circus comes and goes?

Besides that what else can it host? FIA GT? ILMC?

I blogged about this course. I'm interested (as are most others) to see what this track is like once racing takes place there. F1 is obviously the big attraction here. Though it's an F1 venue, I wouldn't be surprised if even World Superbike, MotoGP, or some other series want to run some circuits around Buddh International Circuit.

I was going to discuss the return of Narain K. to F1 for this Indian Grand Prix, but you all beat me to it.

I'm surprised no one has posted this yet as these F1 2011 previews have been about for a while now since Gamescom.

I'm a bit unsure with this track, it seems like a lot of straights and hairpins. Some bits look nice though and I hope there is that much grass as in the game. Hopefully it works out better than Valencia did which promised a lot and disappointed a lot, at least this doesn't look like it promises a lot, so for me at least it can only impress.

I guess its nice to see a new track which isn't super-complicated and features a more simplistic and a little more flowing layout.

Okay, I've been doing some laps of the circuit, and I have to say that initial impression are that it's a lot of fun. True, I have been largely sticking to circuits that I know while I get used to the handling, but based on what I've seen of India, I think it's fairly safe to say that at the very least, the drivers will have a lot of fun with it.

Yes, the first half of the circuit is all long straights and heavy braking zones. But it's almost as if Tilke is aware of it and it making an in-joke; the distance from the start line to the first corner is just far enough that everyone will be in the thick of battling for position when the braking point arrives. And the second corner really sneaks up on you - it's very tempting to take the second bend flat out, only to realise you've missed the apex. It feels like a corner that has been designed so that it is very easy to pressure another driver into a mistake.

The back half is a lot of fun, too. I particularly like the double-apex left with a right-hand flick, because it's really awkward - but in a good way. It's like you have to do three different things to get through the corner quickly, but you can only physically do two of them at any one time. It's kind of like Turn 12, 13 and 14 at Sepang. And that giant right-hander with banking is good fun, too. It's like a reverse Spoon Curve. And everything after it going up the hill is pretty damn good, too. In fact, it may be one of the best sections of circuit on the calendar.

Of course, that's just my opinion. I could be dead wrong, since I'm not a racing driver.

Pardon the double-post, but the circuit has officially been opened and here are the latest photos from the circuit.

Overall, it looks like it's in excellent condition, certainly better than the Korean International Circuit looked a week and a half before the race. All the Indians need to do is clean the circuit up a little bit, get rid of the construction equipment, and it should be ready for racing. They could probably do a little bit of landscaping as well, but that's not imperative.

Try driving it on F1 2011; some similarities to Istanbul and Budapest in my opinion, with elements of Sepang and Bahrain and other Tilke circuits as well. OOPs some of you are indeed going to the game :dunce:

Better than some previous Tilke circuits for overtaking in my opinion 👍

I'm impressed with the progress they've made. A couple of months ago they were still building the paddock and garages and now it's all done and ready for action. Credits to the organiser and contractors + labours to complete the track just about in time!

Last week Red Bull made a video or more like a... Simulation perhaps a rendered video showing the track with Mark explaining the circuit. Yes seems like there are quite some places where you can actually have some overtaking actions happening. Awesome. I'll definitely be waiting for this!
