Indy 500

Man... I dunno why they show this on espn for free while they make you pay for formula 1.... stupid oval races!

Hey, what's the difference between the cars used in indy500 and formula 1? Would you just call them a F1 car and a Indy500 car? And what's formula 3 or any other formula besides one? Can anyone shed some light on these other racing legues that don't seem to be too popular? Thanks.

Do a check at www.motorsport.com, I think there's a good breakdown of the different series, maybe that should help.

Basically, anything with "Formula" attached to it is a feeder series to F1; the order might be karts, Formula Ford, Formula 3, Formula 3000, and then Formula One. There's also various series in between like Formula Renault, Formula Nissan, etc. as well as nationally-run formulae like Formula Nippon, French F3, British F3, etc. that all have different rules. It's rather complex at first, but in time, it makes more sence.

Indy cars, well, IRL cars is the Indy Racing League, and the feeders fpr the series is a little more complex; sprint and midget cars are one way to get into the IRL. The other way, by way of CART, is to go through other road-racing open-wheeled series like US Formula Ford, SCCA open-wheeled stuff like Barber Dodge, and Indy Lights.

And then there's a few that break the traditional mold, and come through to the top by way of rallying, sports-cars, touring cars, even drag racing or NASCAR...but that is quite rare unless they are very expereincved in various types of racing or very talented.

If you're wondering how to get started, bring a small fortune, or get very lucky and show off your talents. What...You're 18 already? Feel free to correct me, I'm not as hip to the latest in feeder series information.

i think there is a series that feeds directly into IRL i think its the Infinity Pro Series

that is correct.

You have to pay to watch F1 but not ESPN? i have to pay for cable to watch both F1 and ESPN.

Well I pay for cable, and I get Espn and Espn2. But Speedchannel is considered pay-per-view.

Is there a difference between the different cars in like Formula 3 or Indy?

Hmm... the race is going to be shown on ESPN? If it is, then I won't have to watch it on local channels.
