Today while I was out and about I saw my first Infinti in Australia a 1993 Infiniti Q45 with deep dish rims and a nice body kit, looked very nice.

After telling a friend who works at a Nissan dealer he told me his boss told him they maybe turning into a Infiniti dealer. This took me by abit of suprise so I searched the web.

It turns out Infiniti's Q45's were sold in 1993 in Australia for $140,000 each, only 100 were ever sold (20 more than R32 GTR's were sold in Australia). Maybe I saw one of the 100 sold, who knows. Anyway I found a few articles about Nissans plans to reintroduce Infiniti in Australia properly and also may call the next GTR Infiniti also.

Nissan has just registered the name 'Infiniti GT-R' in Australia, with side notes along the lines of "super-coupe due 2007".

Infiniti = Lame excuse for Nissan to charge more for a Nissan

They do have some really good cars, but rebadging really annoys me. I'd rather see Infinitis/Acuras/Lexuses sold as Nissan/Hondas/Toyotas.

I hope they join the V8 Supercars and ruin it for everyone.

Somehow.

In a North American Mindset, when the first luxury brands of the japanese automaker came out, there was no way they would trust and purchase a luxury honda ( at the time was just a turd car for students and research scientists ) they had to create a new brand to sell a new type of car...pontiac would not be able to pull of a STS or a CRX today, but caddilac can! Same deal.

Doubt that would happen. Mitsubishi has a better chance.
I'd like to see you in V8 Supercars. :dopey:

Bet you guys didn't know Nissan was literally weeks away from withdrawing Infiniti entirely on more than one occaision in the mid 1990s.

In 1998 they were selling exactly three vehicles: the I30, a rebadged Nissan Maxima; the Q45, which was all-new for 1997 and wasn't selling half of targets; and the QX4, a rebadged Nissan Pathfinder which barreled to 60mph in a little under 12 seconds. They had just cancelled the J30, which started strong and fell fast, and the G20 (after 1996) which they didn't have the resources to attempt again. Things were bleak.

By the way, VIPERGTSR01, how do you know it was a 1993 and not any other 1991-1996 model?

P.S.: another statistic of the day: like the Ford Taurus, the Infiniti Q45 is a car that has gotten less popular as the years have gone on. Now in its third generation, the current Q45 sees about a quarter of the original 1991 model's sales (which weren't spectacularly compared to Lexus's 1990 LS400 anyway). As far as I'm concerned, the Q45 is the only bad spot in the entire lineup, Nissan and Infiniti.

I was going to write 'roughly' 1993 (as we got the infiniti only in 1993, but theres a good chance it was an import anyway) but I didnt bother, so it could be anywhere from 1991-1996 if it was imported.

My friend managed to get a pic of the Q45 with his camera phone when he saw it in the city.
