I did a search with the united states patent and trademark office and found the following results of interest:
you can search yourself here: http://tess2.uspto.gov/bin/gate.exe?f=logi...nglish&p_d=trmk

NISSAN GTR

Filed on March 12, 2002

(APPLICANT) NISSAN JIDOSHA KABUSHIKI KAISHA TA Nissan Motor Co., Ltd

Why would nissan file for "nissan GTR" in the US in 2002?

they also filed for an extension on 08-10-2004

I found another request also made on March 12 2002 for "nissan GTR" in australia

http://pericles.ipaustralia.gov.au/atmoss/...m_number=905985

However what puzzles me is that in australia they also registered "Infiniti GTR"
http://pericles.ipaustralia.gov.au/atmoss/..._number=1005792
and the UK
http://webdb1.patent.gov.uk/RightSite/formexec?DMW_DOCBASE=ibis&DMW_INPUTFORM=ibis/ohim.htm&ohimnum=E3875507
but not in the US?

On a side note "infiniti R spec" is filed by nissan on DEC 10, 2002 meaning that we can expect the R SPEC parts talked about in the 2001 press release quoted below.

NISMO branded parts will cover three areas - NISMO Performance Parts, designed for Nissan vehicles; Infiniti R-Spec performance parts designed for Infiniti vehicles; and NISMO racing parts designed for off-road/race-track use. NISMO also will offer performance parts for current and previous model Nissan and Infiniti vehicles, including the Sentra SE-R and the forthcoming Infinti G35 and Nissan 350Z.

I hope it's sold in Canada as a Nissan GTR. Infiniti GTR doesn't sound right to me.
As GTR_guy adn I discussed in AIM, the GTR is more of a fast GT than a lean sports car, competing more with, say, a Porsche 911 than a Z06 or a Viper (all of similar price). So it would fit more aptly in the premium Infiniti brand.

I like the Nissan name better, but since V35 went to Infiniti, it wouldn't surprise me. Either way, I can't afford it!

True, it is a bit closer to a GT than a full sports car, but it wouldn't surprise me if they sold it under both the Nissan and Infiniti badges. The Nissan version would be higher volume and be more oriented to tuners, while the Infiniti version would be virtually the same car, except with a price markup, and a better interior.

I could see infinity and nissan branded GTR's working well together.

Don't take the fact that they are trademarking it as a clear indication that it is coming, only that the plans are in place.

Yeah me and skip were talking about the possibility of a 350Z/G35 coupe armada/Qx5x type of thing where its basicallt the same car just a few changes and it would cover both markets It certainly goes with the nissan trend.
