Whooboy, new photos!

Autoblog
It looks like either way it goes, Porsche is about to drop a bomb on the world with the Panamera. Either the car will look like the increasingly unadorned mules -- a rather unsightly melange of Boxster-Cayenne-Cayman cues -- and people will wonder "Um, was ist das?" Or in a reveal worthy of Criss Angel, the car will somehow get unrecognizably elegant by the time the production model is displayed in two years.

KGP Photography has caught a slew of new spy shots showing the car that would lead one to place the bets on the former scenario. Porsche went its own way with the Cayenne styling, and in spite of the howls from Porschephiles, the bet paid off massively. But you can mark us down as shocked if Porsche actually bestows on us a Panamera with styling as... interesting... as what we see here.

I wanna see the production car. Its an interesting shape, and could be a wonderful success for Porsche if it performs right...

I like the new rear side windows, but I still think the car lacks the grace to match the other "4-door coupes," especially with that hatch.

At least the car's bulky look will pay off in the end -- although it makes the sedan look fat, it'll probably make the 2-door version look mean.

Looks pretty sweet. 👍 Does anyone else get a Corvette vibe from the front end of this thing, especially from the 2nd photo?

Porsche have been using V8's in the Cayenne since 2002 and in the 928 between 1978 and 1995.

Lookin' fugly. 👍

The back needs work.

I'll agree with Omnis on the back though the front isn't to bad.

But in all honesty, I'm much more interested in this high-powered next generation 928 that'll be based on this.

Sorta meant what I call the "V8 Supercar" Size category: 4-door full-size car with High-output V8.

The details are okay. The front end (and rear end) looks okay by itself, but the profile looks idiotic. It looks exactly like a stretch limo 911 (or a quickly photoshopped limo 911). There's really no way you can make a 911 shape work as a 4-door.

If ^this^ is anywhere near the final look... OMG it looks very very ugly to me. :yuck:

As long as the rear doesn't look like the pics, I'll be happy. Otherwise, this may be Porsche's biggest failure.

Or a success. Porsche's Cayenne didn't start out on a good foot, but after Porsche tweaked it, it actually became a really nice SUV.

Come to think of it, the Boxster and the 914 have been the only Porsches to ever have a steeply sloped rear window and flat trunklid area. I guess they didn't want to add to that list, even with a front-engined sedan. Everything else has been a fastback or the 356/911/Cayenne.

Blame the Mercedes-Benz CLS or Porsche's quirky stubbornness, but at least the Panamera's rear end leads logically towards a two-door "928" version. :)

If they want to make extra money, I'm hoping that its the case. That, and I'd love to know what else will use the RWD chassis they spent so much time developing. Couldn't be cheap for Porsche to do it all by themselves.

For some reason it reminded me of a Corvette from that angle.
