A thread on insomnia...I hear you asking "Why......?"

Because, it's ten of three where I am right now, and I am not sleeping. Not because I don't want to, because I CAN'T!!!!

Ugh, this happens to me almost any time I try to get to bed at a decent hour (in this case, around 10:30 pm). It's like my body is programmed to not get more than six hours sleep a night. I'm better off going to bed at midnight or one in the morning because then I'll at least sleep straight through. Right now, every time I fall asleep I'm awake again within an hour. It's like I had just a little too much energy left when I went to bed and now my internal clock is screwed up.

This really sucks Hoover-style. Sorry to rant, but if anyone else is similarly afflicted, feel free to post....

:banghead:

I get bouts of it - nothing worse.

I generally find exercise and making sure I don't have caffeine after lunch, and anything with much sugar in it after 3-4pm. My prediliction for red wine makes this difficult to follow (combination of tannin and sugar), but I know if I'm reasonably careful during the week I'm fine - and I can sleep in on the weekend so if I have wine late Friday or Saturday it's no big deal.

No caffeine after lunch! Yikes....how am I supposed to stay awake in the afternoon? ;)

Not a bad idea....a little more physical activity wouldn't kill me either.

I always have Insomnia, here it is a school night and its about 30 past midnight and i have to be up at 6:30, i was up till 2 am last night. :|

Yeah, suffered really badly with it for a couple of years.

After a while you get to stage where you're constantly tiered but still unable to sleep. If you've ever seen "Fight Club" it's got a very good explanation in that.

Vat's right, cut the caffeine, watch the sugar intake and don't eat before bed time. Try and take up regular exercise. But don't start jogging 'cos that'll just kill ya unless it's "your thing". Try a sport with an objective, tennis or bowling or something but walk or cycle to wherever your going to do it.....

Try fixing your sleep pattern, like 11pm, go to bed regardless of how you feel, set the alarm for 7 am, and don’t get out of bed ‘til you hear the alarm.

The main problem is that the human body evolved to a state where it was supposed to live a certain way.... then we went and stood up and started talking, social conditioning did the rest. The human body was not meant to live this lifestyle.

Oh and mental stimulation helps, bit of reading just before bed time....

I should just play a Vitz race series before bedtime.... :D

I may start jogging again. My endurance is poo these days. Plus I don't much get into sports with a point...I'm weird, what can I say. :)

@_@ <- me, at the moment

I have the same problem. I'm on 5 hours sleep a night.
No matter how tired i am and how much i want a long night sleep, i just won't fall asleep before 2 or 3 am.

And i don't drink coffee, no snacks or drinks after 10pm( during the week, not in the weekends;) ), and i excersize every day.

Im not sure exactly if I have insomnia, a month ago when I was inbetween jobs (fired :p ) I tended to go to bed around 3/4 am and get up around 1pm. Although when I got a new job I had trouble getting out of the going to bed bit. Sometimes I will go to bed around 12:00 am and get up at 7:00 am just fine. Sometimes I have gone to bed at 4am and got up at 7am and then went straight to sleep when I have gotten home. Then I would wake up around 10:00pm and go to bed around 4am, its kinda a viscious circle. That I am now thankfully out of :)

I had mild isomnia over the summer - i couldn't sleep earlier than 1:30 or 2:00 AM.

Join the club. I've had it for years off and on. Currently I suffer from can't stay awake for more than 8 hours syndrome.

yeah, insomnia sucks, i had it real bad during the summer. three months without a sleep schedule isnt good. what i tried to do is to stay up for like a whole day, and then get back into a pattern. it actually worked very well.

here's my solution

Go out get completely plastered when you get home you fall into bed uterly drunk works for me
or stay up for a full 36 hour period that will soon make you sleep

But on a serious note i had insomia for a long while whilst at UNI i was sleeping for an hour at most just about every night then i went to the doctor ..

I was prescribed Mogadon tablets to help me sleep these things where vicious i would be out of my head for 30 mins then crash out but the side effects were too much for me i had this chemical after taste in my mouth the day after and nothing would get rid of it

iI used these for two nights and decided to try and do it normally without the aid of drugs

so what i did was went out at the weekend got wasted (Was up for three days ) when i got home i was completely nackered i slept for 2 days after that my sleep patern returned to normal

thats a true story

Allthough i say without the use of drugs.. well thats not completely true now is it drink is a drug in it's self

;)

I had insomnia once where I went to bed at 10:30 PM, and ended up going to sleep at 5:45 AM. I slept till 9:30 AM and couldn't go back to sleep. That night I slept so hard my parent's could barley get me awake the next morning.
