Installed a 60GB SSD, GT5 loads way faster now.

I got the fat PS3 80GB version with the 80GB 5400rpm HDD. After doing some re-search and watching some videos on Youtube regarding installing an SSD hard drive to the PS3. I decided to try it myself.

I bought a 60GB Intel SSD for $200 on ebay. It looks exactly like a regular 2.5" laptop HDD. Just follow the basic instruction and swap it in.

Turn on PS3 and the set up procedure is surprisingly simple. re-load my saved data and fired up GT5. The loading time really is shorter, I can't say it's a lot faster but one of the best thing I notice is the car model takes no time to load at all. In your garage, new car dealer and even arcade mode. Even if you scroll really fast in the arcade car selection menu, the car model is already viewable as soon as your stop. It no longer has that annoying loading and waiting. Going into race, GT auto and tune shop is faster as well.

Just completed 4 hours of roaster endurance, touched the bottom of my PS3 and it feels cooler than the stock 80GB HDD.

SSD might be expensive but I think it's worth it if you spend a lot of time playing the game. Even jumping to the XMB while in-game seems much faster.

Yay technology :)

If I wasn't in college, I'd probably spend the money for such a thing but I'd rather save it for fun when I go back next semester. (don't take my ps3 with me) :dunce:

I don't keep any big size video files on my PS3, I just stream them or save them to external HDD. All my game installed files and MP3 combined a total of 20GB. I still have plenty of room to install other games. By the time I run out of room on this 60GB SSD, a 250GB SSD will be cheap hahaha
