Instant Replay freezing me out of my carPS4

Sometimes I pause the game and go in to to instant replay to watch an incident with other drivers or to see if a dust-up was my fault or not, I highlight a different driver and run it for a lap or two (actually, I think two laps is the limit)

But when I back out and try to continue the race, that highlighted driver is the driver thats shown on the race screen as the race followsf him. I have no control over him or my car!

Does anyone know why this happens?

It ruins a race especially if I'm deep in to it

Trying an endurance race at Laguna Seca. 2 hours

1 hour in and i go to replay an incident (I'm always trying to evaluate if an incident is my fault or the AI's, so I can be a better driver when I get the opportunity to race online with the elite racers.

Tapped L1 to select the other driver and when I went back in to the race I was that AI driver but couldn't control him.

So, since I could see my car I turned my wheel and it turned my car but I couldn't gain proper control of it and had to leave the race. Upon "restart", I still was centered on the AI car. I had to actually exit:censored:

No one else has experienced this?
