Instruction Booklets for old, old Computer Games

Now we've moved house, I'm spreading my stuff around a bit and the Amiga is going to see some daily action.

Sadly, many of the games I have are SOOO old that I no longer have the original instruction manuals - let's face it, the last Amiga game I bought is now 8 years old...

Does anyone know of an online source for the manuals for elderly computer games? The one I particularly want is the manual for "The Settlers" (published by Blue Byte in 1993). I can remember almost everything (which is quite sad, when you think about it), but a couple of features elude my memory. There are other online sites with scans of old instructions - there's a great one for every single Lego model ever produced - which you can print off, but I'm unaware of any for old games.

I could, of course, take my chances buying the games cheap from eBay, but there is nothing physically wrong with the games, other than no longer having manuals.

This MAY get moved to "Computers & Electronics", but the Amiga A1200 no longer has any real relevance to today's computer genii... :D
 
That lego website wouldn't be Brick Shelf would it? That's a magnificant site. The only place I would think of going is eBay. Googling for hours might also churn in some results.
 
I may still have the manual for the one I had (unsure if it was Amiga or PC). Remind me tomorrow after 4pm and I'll go up the loft and have a look for it

I have all the instruction manuals for my NES and original Game Boy games, but no PC games.
 
Nice! Although they are a little far away... :D

No Settlers though.. :( Many of the games there seem to be original launch-day A500 games.

Edit: Hmm. This one isn't bad - but no Settlers :(

There's also a comprehensive repository known as the "LSD Docs" which looks quite vast and holds The Settlers amongst it's collection...
 
you know what a good computer game was that i miss. oregan trail.
 
I just got Indiana Jones & the Fate of Atlantis back up and running today. Even though it's a little more recent I think it's still one of the best classics around. Hours and hours of enjoyment and thinking. :D:tup:

Given that the game is so old and out of production, for a computer no-one's released any games for since 1996 and my copy is an original, I doubt it's against the AUP.

Nevertheless, cheers!

None of us are, actually.

That's what makes you a "content provider" (30% of the 'net) instead of a "content user" (the other 70% of the 'net).
 
BAH!

Just had a whirl on one of my other favourites - Dune 2: The Battle For Arrakis.

At the end of level 1 you're required to enter information from the manual about the different types of unit in the game. Could I find the manual? Could I buggery!

Double help now! :D
 
My wife actually saved almost all her Atari 2600 manuals. I wonder what they'd go for on eBay?

Actually, I'll be back at my Can't-View-GTP-Workplace soon, so I'll have to search for myself there (I can look at eBay there, though).
 
Nah - won't cut it. It's really got to be the manual - as the game asks for specific details about each unit (range, type, speed etc.).

Besides which I wouldn't trust anything from a site devoted to the game which can't spell two of the three houses you play as/against (that's Ordos, Atreides and Harkonnen).


Edit: On the other hand this, while not being downloadable, is ****ing perfect...

I might try to get this game. Dune 1 (the adventure based game) was good and this Red-Alert type sequel looks good. It's something about old games, they just have good storylines and the graphics look so raw but interesting. The artists just made pixel-art look so good.

Anyway, i'll help anyone with an interest in the old classics, there's not enough of us here.
 
It's not "good" - it's a true classic. It was, essentially, the forerunner to the first Command & Conquer games and was also made by Blue Byte. Teh AWESOME!
 
The best games were It came from the desert II and Moonstone. I could play those for hours.
 
I still have the AmigaOS 1.3 and 3.0 Instructions manuals somewhere.
