Hello guys.

It appears that this serious issue still exists although it was partly addressed via the 1.07 update.

The question is, is PD aware of this serious problem?

The latest version I had updated to was 1.08.

Everything will work fine, until you delete the saved installation data in the game utility folder of your PS3.

If you happen to do that you are screwed. If not, DONT!!

If you did delete it though you will noticed that the game runs fine up to update 1.06. After that you will be getting the error.

This is a very serious bug, probably the worst and I have noticed that there are many who are still experiencing this issue.

The question is if PD is informed of this, and how can they be informed if not.

If someone discovered a way to fix this, his contribution is needed and will be appreciated as there are many who have went very far with the game and is extremely disheartening to delete the save data as the only remedy

I don't entirely follow you...

Do you mean you have a patched installation with a save game from 1.08, then you completely uninstall the game, then reinstalled to 1.00 and now have problems? That is rather obvious... an older version of a program reading a saved data file from a newer version generally runs into this problem. Back up your old save file to USB, reinstall the game and re-patch, then copy over the backed up save from USB.

Actually its the opposite that happens. My game save from 1.08 runs fine in any update version below 1.07 which is ironic. So I didnt lose any of my progress. The problem though is that I can not access any of the online features (or any other feature/fix from 1.07 and 1.08) because I have to update to 1.08. If I do that though I will get the error and I will not be able even to play the game unless I delete my game save. and start from the beginning

This is what caused the problem. I deleted the game data (not save data) from the game utility folder. So the updates were also removed. So when I put in the disk and I was prompted to updated to 1.08 I did just that. Then I got the insufficient memory message. I dont get it if I play the game in older versions

The GT5 game save can no longer be uploaded to a USB since the newest PS3 FW update. I am forced to subscribe to PS+ and use cloud saving.

But this wont help since the solution you suggest was already tried by others before the latest FW and didnt work

This is an error that many experience and hasnt been addressed yet, so whatever you do, do not remove any of the GT5 system data/installation from your PS3 and back up your PS3 just in case

i can upload my game saves just fine to my usb and i have the lastest firmware update

I'm having the same problem. I recently deleted my Data utility because i was having trouble with the last Nascar challenge. Now when I try to update to 1.08 I get the error message. Luckily I'm a PS+ subscriber so I can copy my save file there since I cant copy to my USB anymore. I deleted my save file and I bypass the message, but as soon as I copy my save back to my PS3 I get the message.

If I'm reading this right, it seems you both are bypassing 1.05 which gave us the game save option[ i think it was that one] Try deleted game data again and patch up to 1.05, finish what you need to finish, save to usb, then patch back up to 1.08. Not sure if this will work for you, but beats starting over if it does.

the game automatically chooses the 1.08 update. When I start the update, it downloads 3 updates I think. Because it shows 1/3 updates. I never fully watched it update because I usually watch TV or do something else while its download, but when I come back I see the message.
But you may be on to something. If the game is bypassing the 1.05 update that explains why we cant back up our save files to a jump drive.

Game updates should be cumulative, so you will only get patched up to the latest version using the minimum amount of downloads that would update all components. I'm guessing that you have a file size near the 4MB limitation before originally installing 1.05, after which, you passed the 4MB threshold but since the fix was implemented, the issue did not affect your save. When you removed the game data and reinstalled the game back to 1.00, during the process of updating, the game accessed the now greater than 4MB sized file, corrupting it in the process. Therefore, after fully updating to the latest patch, the file is still irreparable because PD at the time said the patch would not fix game saves that had already passed the threshold. If my assumption is true, then what you should have done is back up the game save before attempting any re-installation, then restore the game save only after the installation has been fully updated again.

My save file is around 513kb.
Something I forgot to mention: I can start the game with my save file if I haven't updated the game and I'm not connected to the internet so I doubt its the save file. Or maybe its a combination of both the save and the update.

What I am saying is in addition to fixing the size limitation, that the updates also changed the stored data format of the old save game files; so while it may read the file fine, it's not until you try to write to it again with an older version of the game that the damage is done because the data overwritten will not be in the location or format the older version of the game expects.

Version prior to 1.05 > Saves as format A
Versions after 1.05 > Saves as format B
Version prior to 1.05 may read format B because of existing similarities but corrupts it upon write; don't attempt to use format B with a version expecting format A.

File size in that case is irrelevant; it's the change in data format, probably the addition of Performance Points or other tidbits that is the common factor, etc.

Backup save to USB before deleting game data and reinstalling. Reinstall the game and create a temporary new game save that will be discarded once fully updated. After you are on 1.08, restore the copy from USB storage.

I have this same problem.

Budious, I never knew about how the patch changed the way the file was saved. I will try to do what you suggested. I cannot save my file to a USB either. I can play fine on the original 1.00 software but even if I only update the first patch (1.00-1.05), it still locks the game up and gives me this error. Even if I cannot even boot up GT5, do you think I could still copy the save game file?

I hope that we can get this solved, this has been happening way too much lately...

Yeah, this a problem if you didn't backup before you started because the original version that shipped (1.00) had locked saves that could not be copied. I think that was only changed upon 1.02 release if I remember correctly. So if you uninstall the game data then this may break the ability to back up the save again after the fact, or reinstalling the original version overwrites the permission changes that permitted backup.

I'm not entirely sure about changes internally to the format of the save file with the newer patches, it's based on the assumption that new features added through patches produce statistics that need to be stored like Performance Points and B-spec remote, Ballast, Power Limiter, etc.

Are the people updating to 1.08(b) already on 1.07 or a 1.08(a) version or are you attempting from fresh install, or when exactly did the problem first arise? I have seen several posts about 1.08 prompting for download the last day or two but that is strange because I've had it for well over a week unless it's a regional thing, but I find it hard to believe they left one region able to glitch SS7 for an extra week. Is there a newer version of 1.08 that fixes Nurburgring also?

I'm confused on this as moderators are jerky "OMG, WE GOT TEN BILLION THREADS ON THIS - LOCK" all the time but don't stop to consider it might be an alternative or re-patched map glitch patch, I'd like to know the differences if there are any.

The alternative theory is that 1.05 had a special script of sorts that required a few minutes of processing time after first installing the patch, during that time it appeared to do the save file format conversion, calculate Peformance Points, and or other additions were being sorted in the background (long pause on GT logo with lots of HDD activity - the orange LED). It's possible the auto-updater that merges the patches post 1.05 is downloading all of the updated components but the script is not downloading or being executed to trigger conversion. All hypothetical though...

Well I'm not entirely following this thread, but anyway I'd deleted and reinstalled the game data after 1.08 (backed up at 1.05 or so) and I'm not having any issues backing up saves or freezing.

Good luck figuring this out.
