I had alook at a comprehensive car insurance extimate for SA www.sgic.com.au and was shocked at what I found, If I was to go and buy a 1984 Holden Calais VK 5.0L V8 4 Speed Manual it would cost me...4,100 AUD!!!
It would cost someone with 25 years driving experience plus $400!
It's downright evil the way they are exploiting young drivers, I am going to have to buy a less powerful car to dodge the insurance (and even those prices are insane) 1000 a year for my 1965 Valiant 225!
I may have to go third party and pray to god I dont crash!!!
In Europe its even more of a pain. If you are between 18 - 25 years old, not only will your insurance be insanely expensive, you also won't be accepted in most insurance companies!
And in the unlikely event of an accident odds are that they will refuse to pay you. They always find something or some reason not to pay.
Anyways, I could buy a second hand car right now. Only problem is that I wouldn't have any money left to insure it. How sad is that?
nah, me neither, I just take solace in the fact I know I can drive, I will take out 3rd party until such a time as I can afford comprehensive, I just cant crash because the excess will kill me.
It's legalised theivery.
Stupid things are, that i'm probably going to pay more for my car insurance than I am for the car . Also they fine in Britain to be caught without car insurance is about £1250 and car insurance will proabably cost me £1500. Cheaper to get caught and fined than to have it .
That's still very destressing Mike to hear that you had to sell your VR6. I take it was the GTi special one. How much were you paying on it? Corrola? I'm sure there's ample of much better cars you could of got the price of a corrola?

$7000Canadian per year for 3 drivers (liability coverage only). That's *if* my parents went out and purchased a year old Maxima or G35. That's what's keeping us from buying a new car - now we've got a 97 Benz s500 that we wanna sell and nobody wants to buy it.
£46 a month for mine. And it's group 14 (out of 20 - Ferrari and TVR (and Aston Martin) being 20, FIAT Panda being 1).
Quotes for a Supra TT/NSX are nudging around the £55 a month mark - and yet I'm only 26.
Oddly, ESure ("we only insure careful drivers") won't insure me, as I'm too young to have a group 14 car that I paid £3250 to buy - tossers. I have no accident/claim history in the last 3 years and no driving offences of any variety ever (they're only bothered about the last 5 years though). I've been driving 8 years and have had a variety of Ford Fiestas. But I'm not "safe" enough, apparently. Tossers. Twice.
thats why me and my sis are going to be stuck driving our dads Citroen AX 1.4D, or possibly a C2 1.1, which should be down quite abit when it comes to my time to drive.
Insurance is a statistical business. Statistically, teenagers drive like crap. This is proven over and over, year after year, and that proof is what the premiums are based on.

...and has been amplified over and over on this board, by teenagers themselves. It was amplified and proven by me when I was a teenager, so I'm not claiming to be any special case.
But now I pay about US$2200 a year for 4 cars, 2 drivers, both married and over 25, collision and zero-deductible comprehensive.
Which came in handy yesterday, when some assclown shot out my rear door window. I made one call to the insurance company from work; they patched me in to a scheduler who gave me my choice of 4 installers who could fix it that day; she transferred me to the installer so I could tell him where the car was, and by quitting time it was if it had never happened, with me out of pocket nothing but 10 minutes on the phone.
