Surely everyone has heard of the legendary 24 Hours of LeMONS? If not:

http://www.24hoursoflemons.com/

It's all about fun racing for a cheap price with ludicrous competitors and the emphasis on having a good time and a laugh. The similar Chump Car World Series works by the same principle.

And so, like the legends of LeMONS and Chump Car, do you race for fun? Are you quite possibly slightly crap and often use driving aids just to make your life easier and make the experience more enjoyable? I am, and so creating a LeMONS/Chump Car-esque series on Gran Turismo seems like a good and fun idea, with the emphasis being on casual racing.

This thread is just to check interest, and if enough people want to join then I'll set up a proper thread and a (rather basic, rather casual) website just for reference, news etc along with a formal rule book.

This is what the series will be like:
-Championships: there will be two drivers championships running simultaneously. One will be for one-make races and the other for open-formula races

-Cars: Open Formula: Each event will have a PP limit. This will be the only limit to choice of car. At each event, this limit will increase, meaning we will start off in crappy cars with a 200PP limit or similar, and gradually work our way up, meaning by the end of the season the PP might be more around the 700PP mark.
One Make: each event a car will be selected that all drivers must use. The cars will improve in PP week by week.

-Rules: No body contact will be allowed as fair racing is promoted but as a casual league for casual drivers, we will be lenient. All driving aids will be allowed to give maximum accessibility to less serious drivers.

-Races: There will be two races per meeting each usually lasting for a maximum of 20 minutes. If there is interest a couple of endurance events lasting an hour or more will be incorporated. The plan is to race on Sunday mornings UK time (10 or 11 am), except if there is a Grand Prix on at this time when we will race in the afternoon or evening. (4pm or 8pm). race 1 at a meeting will be for the one make championship, race 2 for open formula.

-Drivers/lobbies: We will start with one lobby per event for up to 16 drivers, unless there is enough demand for 2 lobbies, in which case separate divisions will be used. We don't intend to be a huge multi-lobby series as we want to have a more communal feel.

With this in mind we recommend that serious drivers and professionals stay away as we are all for casual, fun but fair racing for those of us perhaps lacking a bit in skill. It is worth note that whilst drivers championships will be incorporated the fun, humor and social aspect is more important to us. Other prizes for 'best worst livery' etc may be on offer.

If you're interested in racing please state so below and please ask me any questions you may have.

Hope to see you on the track.

I also forgot to mention that we need a name for the series. I like LeMONS 24M but I'm open to suggestions in this field.

(Space reserved for interested drivers list)

Just an FYI, if you search thread titles for "LeMONS" you will find that we have already held many LeMONS style series on this forum. The rules are a bit different but do the search to get some ideas. I'm guessing based on your location you'd still want to host your own series since we run our series on North America evenings.

Thanks for the info. I did do a previous search yet not much seemed to come up....maybe I missed something. The fact that there appears to be low demand for an idea that actually may have already been thought of by yourselves indicates that maybe there is no point further pursuing this idea.

I am interested, but I would be even more interested if all aids EXCEPT SRF were allowed as I find that SRF can make a worse driver faster than a good driver which I don't think is fair.
I'm particularly interested in the Open Formula series with the PP restrictions.
However, I'm not sure if I could be bothered to get up early for a race, would it be possible to have the races at about 1-2pm?

Well no rules and times have even been finalized yet (I am waiting for more interest for that) so If no SRF is what people want I'm happy to give them that. As for timings, 1-2pm would intervene with quite a few F1 Grands Prix, things I'm sure most people would prefer to avoid clashing with?

Still, due to the small amount of interest so far (I am going to check if some 'non-GTplanet' friends are interested to get feedback) everything is still workable and adaptable.
