Huh, this is the first time I've ever created a new thread. Anyway, I'm interested in running a race series, and I'd like to choose the one that's the most popular with those who would like to participate.

Each series would be six races long, with each race lasting a week, would be run exclusively in Arcade Mode, and would be composed mostly of hotlaps, with one or two single races of multiple laps thrown in. Points would be awarded based on finishing position, and the driver with the most points at the end of the six races would be the overall winner. Time discussion in the thread would be limited to split times, like the WRS, but unlike the WRS, the only proof required would be a photo of the time for the top three, and maybe a video replay if I'm still suspicious.

Now, your three choices:

Caterham Cup: I'm including this so that those that were interested in senamic's version will have something like it as an option. I'm not sure whether to vary the power, weight, and tire settings, or just to leave it stock on N3s, trackday-style. I'd leave that open for you all to decide if that ends up being the most popular choice.

Supercar Cup: This series would feature the game's fastest production cars (I'm not sure whether to include concepts and tuners - again, popular opinion) on a wide variety of tracks, with a wide variety of tire choices. Expect some relatively tame cars, and some that are tricky. :trouble:

Oversteer Cup: Definitely the most unusual of the three choices (and my personal favorite, but please don't let that influence your vote), this series would feature the slidiest cars in a game that generally favors understeer. Beware, most of the races would be on N tires, and I will choose at least a couple combos that have softer tires in the front than in the back, but I hope that just adds to the fun, and perhaps makes this game a bit more realistic by avoiding the grippy and forgiving sports tires.

So, vote for your favorite of these in the poll, and if there's enough interest (probably five drivers minimum, including me), then I'll go ahead and start it in probably two weeks or so. Have fun. 👍

I'm in for Supercar Cup. It destroys my Cat7 Concept. But if Austin is willing to run Cat Cup, I would be all in.

Thanks for your votes, everyone (including those of you who didn't post in the thread :p). Keep them coming, and if the Caterhams maintain their lead, I'll post a warm-up race a week from today with another vote about whether you want varied power and tire settings or just a stock version on N3s. 👍

I like the supercar cup alot. 2nd stock fireblades sounds tempting.

MadMax

Man all 3 sound ever so tempting!
If tuners are in the supercar I'd vote for that! If not I'd vote for the Cat cup I think..
I'd be up for both to be honest..

Dc

Wow, the voting is awfully close! Although the votes are equal for the two, the Caterhams have the edge right now because we have the following:

Caterham votes: one with no post, one with a post not mentioning interest in the supercars, and two with a post also mentioning a willingness to run the supercars.

Supercar votes: one with no post and three with a post also mentioning an interest in the Caterhams.

It's essentially a tie at this point, but if I don't vote (which under these circumstances would be equivalent to an executive decision :indiff:), then Caterhams would be the choice. And I think that if people are willing, I'll follow whichever series wins this vote with the one that loses it, or at least put it up in another vote with any other concepts I might dream up between now and then. 👍

Gee, my old concept is popular when someone puts it in terms that make sense

It definitely helps. 👍
I hope you're not under the impression that we've deserted you here, but I'd posted a whole series of questions in your thread about the Cat7 Cup and got no answers. Some of the preliminary stuff was a little confusing such as the 30 min limit, that wouldn't really separate closely matched drivers who run consistent laps within 1/10ths of seconds of one another, such as we've seen in many series before.

Those of us like raz_10 & myself that've been burned in this way before in the whole MX-5 Cup debacle before it was taken over and run properly, are wary of joining something that doesn't have clear guidelines & a timetable from the outset. It's also important that questions or queries are answered in a timely fashion or people simply walk away.

I'd laid my cards on the table in my own selfish way by saying that I'm in if it's Arcade mode with fixed tuning parameters, as I believe it gives a better driver comparison and leaves more time for racing, i.e. set weight to -10, set power to whatever that week's choice is, pick the correct tyres and off you go. GT mode tuning can waste so much time running laps to perfect a setup tweaking 1 value at a time that, to me, the fun goes out of it before you've had chance to get into the hotlapping groove. That's just my opinion though, and many others actually enjoy the tuning part and if that's the consensus, then you must go with what's most popular and fun for as many people as possible, that way you maintain as much interest as your effort in creating it deserves.

I'm sure Austin343 would appreciate any help you're prepared to offer as a joint organiser of a revamped Cat7 cup whether it be with race preparation, results tabulation, thread banner creation or whatever and could benefit from the incorporation of some or all of your ideas. 👍
I'm sure also that either of you could ask seasoned series organisers such as EDK or RACECAR for hints, tips and advice on making whichever series goes ahead (Cat7, Supercar or Oversteer) a roaring success.

Thats okay man, no hard feelings. I ended up running out of time to run the Cat7 Cup, but austin put this up before I could redirect people. Thanks for honesty, I wasn't trying to go off at people, just telling it hoe it is. It IS good that someone is running it better.

Senamic

Again, I think your idea was great, senamic, and clearly explained, but it just didn't interest people because they're used to driving GT4 in a certain way. I'm trying to appeal to as many people as possible with my simpler format.

It looks like I'll have to flip a coin if there are no more votes. :scared:

I'd prefer the Oversteer Cup, but I'm in on the Cat7 one too, as long as this is all arcade mode 👍

Yep, all Arcade Mode. Tuning skill may be a big part in skill at Gran Turismo, but I prefer to distill it to solely driving skill.

Do people mind if I vote as well? I would vote for the supercars, which would put its number of votes ahead by one but really just even it out in the way I'm mentally tallying them, because neither mustangGT90210 nor Smallhorses expressed interest in them. I'm essentially counting the main preference as one vote and any "I'm up for _____, too" as half a vote, putting the count at six for Caterhams, five for supercars, and three for Oversteer.

I just voted 👍

I'll race any of them, but my preference are in this order: Oversteer, Caterham, supercar

All right, it looks like the Caterhams have the majority, and that will be the series I run. 👍 I'll put up a warmup race with a multiple choice poll tonight, choosing between all hotlaps or mixed hotlaps and races, and between varied and constant settings.

Sweet.

Something I feel should be known at this point: I do not have any device to get a replay off of my playstation, nor do I wish to use my limited funds to buy something to do it with. I have a cell phone camera for stills. If anybody has any issues, that is the best I can do. Although I doubt this should be a problem, I'm not fast enough to warrant that

Having not touched GT4 for absolutely ages and having got totally bored with GT5P I've dusted down the old GT4 box and decided I might like to have a bash at this. Very rusty though! :ouch:
nige

It's nice to see you around, nige. 👍 Have a go at the warmup race - a couple of hours playing GT4 should see you right back on pace.
