About the series
Drivable cars, the element of danger, the F1 weekend experience

I thought the online racing in Codemasters' F1 2010 was great fun, but since it's very limited and hard to run a racing league with the online options, we're going to do it in Gran Turismo instead!

The GT Formula Club (if there is sufficient interest) will be a 5-race, weeknight formula racing championship using the Formula Gran Turismo car (not the Ferraris).

To encourage good racing, and good participation, the cars will be limited to 650 hp, and traction control and ABS will be allowed. I want to emphasize the 'danger' of open-wheel racing, and I want people to be afraid of braking points and crashes. So, damage will be on 'Heavy', and there will be NO driving line. Races will be 30-60 minutes, so there will be pit strategy, and the need to pit to fix a damaged car will keep drivers honest.

The races will be drop-in, meaning you show up for the pre-race qualifying, run your best lap, park in the pits, and then it's race time.

Qualifying

Pre-race qualifying is a 60-minute free practice / open qualify format.

Drivers must register at least 1 qualifying hotlap to be entered into the race.

Drivers who want a spot in the race are encouraged to show up early as it is first-come, first-serve.

Race

Races in dry weather will have a grid start. To set the correct grid, drivers will drive a 1-lap race in formation and finish in reverse qualifying order. That way, when the full race is started, the cars will be in the correct grid positions using 'Reverse Finishing Order'.

Races in wet weather will have a 1-lap formation lap added to the race distance, and will have a single-file rolling start. The car on pole position will lead the field around the track, and may not exceed 80 k/h, or 50 m/h. Passing or pulling out of line before the Start/Finish line is prohibited.

Points

The points system encourages drivers to start AND finish a race. No one left on-track likes finishing a race against 3 other drivers because the rest of the field frustration-quits midway.

1st - 25
2nd - 18
3rd - 15
4th - 12
5th - 10
6th - 8
7th - 6
8th - 4
9th - 2
10th - 1

Bonus points for finishing a race - 3

To account for random disconnects or other activities, season-end points will be calculated using a driver's top 4 out of 5 finishes.

Driver conduct

Each driver is allowed to file 1 post-race protest against a fellow driver (via PM) about a racing incident that occurred during the race. Racing accidents happen, and only very obvious bad/aggressive driving will be penalized.

Lapped traffic is expected to be aware of their position and to yield to the lead lap cars on the next available straight away. KP is 'bananapants'. Lead cars passing lapped traffic are encouraged to wait for the next straight to pass.

All disciplinary action will take place via PMs and via posted race results. Any excessive vulgarity or calling out of other drivers specifically in public (the thread or on-track) will result in bans ranging from 1 race to the rest of the season.

no responses? or just deleted? I'd be interested!

No interest it seems. I would be happy to still do the series.
