Following the success of my 24 Hours of LeMans spot race at the GTX, I've decided to keep with prototype racing by bringing back one of the greatest championships of the past few decades, the World Sports-Prototype Championship, better known to most for the category of cars it used: Group C.

This will be an 8 race season across not only various circuits, but also various distances in that this series will not only include short sprint style and medium length races, but a few endurances thrown in to show the true test of a driver's ability across various conditions. This means there will be races varying from 7 laps to over 200.

The current circuits planned for this season are:
Infineon Raceway-Sears Point
Fuji Speedway
Tokyo R246
Grand Valley Speedway
Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca
High Speed Ring
Suzuka Circuit
Seoul Central

Each of the races will last 1 week each, making this an 8 week season.

Now the stars of this series are of course the cars, and a wide range of types and manufacturers are available to choose from. These cars are high powered, nimble machines that require the utmost concentration from their driver. These cars offer a wide variety of settings, requiring them to be fine tuned to get the maximum amount of performance.

The cars allowed in this series include:
1988 Jaguar XJR-9
1991 Mazda 787B
1989 Mercedes-Benz Sauber C9
1989 Nissan R89C
1991 Nissan R92CP
1992 Peugeot 905
1988 Toyota 88C-V

All of these cars will be left stock in terms of upgrades with the exception of a chassis stiffening (adding a rollcage). Chassis refresh and oil changes are allowed at any time at the driver's discretion.

Drivers will select one car at the start of the season and stick with it for all 8 races.

This will obviously be a championship so there will be a points system involved based off of the former FIA system used back in the Group C days, awarding the Top 6 cars:

1 - 10
2 - 6
3 - 4
4 - 3
5 - 2
6 - 1

The driver with the most points at the end of the season will win the championship.

Sounds cool, but I'm already busy with the JGTC series.
 
I'm in 👍. Group C cars are my favorites in the game :D

Just one suggestion, how about a race at Sarthe, where they were meant to be run ;)
 
I might also be interested - although i'm yet to win one in GT4.

I thought about LeSarthe but there are no races there longer then 4 laps in GT Mode that I could find, and all of them were on LeSarthe I (with chicanes). I'd prefer to have Le Sarthe II.
 
You can use the Family Cup option when you select World Circuits in GT Mode. You can select whatever amount of laps you woud like to do 👍
 
You can also run these in the f1 race - i do it for short race fun - a little over an hour and aso beats the f1 cars

Family Cup only lets you select the difficulty, it does not let you select number of laps. You can only select the number of laps in Arcade Mode.
 
The option of running Arcade Mode for these races, allowing for me to set the number of laps on any possible course as well as being able to even up the field through horsepower/weight modification is currently being discussed at the GTX version of this thread.

Any discussion over here would be appreciated.
 
You can select number of laps via Family Cup simply by changing the number of laps in Arcade Options, just as you would in aracade mode.

I'm not sure I understand. Do you mean that you can change the amout of laps in a Family Cup race?
 
You can NOT change the number of laps in the Family Cup. I changed the number of laps in Arcade Options and it did nothing.

I remember doing it on a race at one time but I must be mistaken.
 
Have interest - its finding the time - may not be able to race every week
 
I'd like for everyone to start making their car selection within the next week. Race 1 will start next Monday so you have this week to pick your favorite (or buy it/find it if you need it).

The plan right now is that we might switch to Arcade Mode, allowing me to equalize all the cars with horsepower or weight changes in Quick Tune-Up. Expect these tune-ups to be published within the week in this thread.

Also expect some track changes to the schedule.
 
Toyota Minolta 88C-V for me please!...I'lll be back from vacation later this week in time to start preparing for round one (1)....

I think I'll run my Minolta (God I hate this Car)

Although I think GT Mode would be best because if we use cars from our garages in Arcade Mode,some people that use TCS and ASM may not be able to race.I only use TCS & ASM or certain races but others like to use it all the time i guess.
 
True, I hadn't thought about TCS being only on/off in Arcade Mode...

I'll get this stuff figured out during this week.
 
Official Announcement:

In order to make up for the unusual gearbox of the Peugeot 905 which keeps it off the pace of the rest of the Group C cars, the following ballast penalties have been put in place to help equalize the cars:

Jaguar XJR-9 - 100kgs
Mazda 787B - 100kgs
Mercedes-Benz Sauber C9 - 150kgs
Nissan R89C - 150kgs
Nissan R92CP - 100kgs
Peugeot 905 - No Weight Penalty
Toyota 88C-V - 150kgs

This will help make the field somewhat even, but not perfectly. The average cars of the field shall be the Jaguar XJR-9, Mazda 787B, and Nissan R92CP. Allowing the Peugeot 905 to have a 100kg advantage will allow it to make up the time lost due to it's gearbox. Adding 50kgs to the Mercedes-Benz Sauber C9, Nissan R89C, and Toyota 88C-V will help slow them down slightly.

Basically, all the cars should be within 2 seconds of each other lap wise for nearly all the tracks. Of course, some cars will excel at some tracks while not so well at others, so car choice is still up to personal preference.

Should these weight penalties be found to not be adequate and a car is still dominating the series or lagging behind, I reserve the right to adjust them as I see fit between races. Note, however, that these mid-season changes will be minor (less then 50kgs weight adjustment).

This means the series will continue on in GT Mode using the tracks I originally specified in the opening post (Sorry, this means no LeMans or Nurburgring). The specific race locations and distances will be announced by me in the race thread, as well as the order for the season.

Now, all that is left is for people to begin making their car selections.

If you're interested you need to make sure your car fits in with the rule requirements and start racing in the current race thread (Round 4, Laguna Seca). However this race ends at midnight tonight so you'll likely have to start in Round 5.
