Interested in getting a 240SX

So after owning a '96 Acura Integra for three years now, I'm interested in getting a second car. I always wanted a RWD car. There are some cars I would choose over a 240SX, like the Toyota MR2, but because I need a car with more than 2 seats, the 240SX is better suited for my lifestyle.

I don't have the money to buy one yet, but I wanted to ask other members here who own a 240SX, used to own one, or has any experience with them what they are like and how good and reliable they are. I'm interested in both the S13 and S14.

Thanks.

Hope you only need back seat for shopping stuff or small children (not ones needing baby seats) if your wondering what I mean go and try to get into the backseat of one of these. Kind of like trying to craw into the back area of my Opel GT, of course I'm not as small as I used to be!:ouch:. Other than that I think you will enjoy one.

Yeah they don't really have a back seat. Not a useful one anyway.

In any case, if you just buy one and don't do anything to it, it will be reliable. It will also be boring. If you modify it, it will be less reliable, but more fun.

Regarding back seats, I think it'll only be a minor problem. I rarely have more than 1 person riding with me on a regular basis, but I still need back seats just in case. I see it only causing a slight inconvenience.

To be honest, I don't plan on modifying it at all, but I doubt it will be more boring than my Integra. And even then, it can be fun to drive at times. Plus, the 240SX will be my first manual transmission car.

It will probably be a lot more boring than your Integra. Those cars make great daily drivers and don't have a horrible suspension from the factory like a 240 does.

I've been throwing around thoughts of a SR20VE powered S13 Coupe. Future project of course.

Currently don't have any experience with them though, sorry I couldn't help. :indiff:

If you're not looking for a fast RWD car that you don't plan on modifying then get a V6 Mustang. They'll have a moderately more usable backseat compared to a 240, but slightly faster, slightly cheaper, and come with a CD player.

Similar gas mileage, faster, better equipped, and still cheaper than nearly any stock 240. My point stands - if you plan on keeping it stock and just desire a RWD car, get a V6 mustang. If you wanna drift, play around with it, actually plan on using for something other than normal road use, considering a 240 isn't a bad idea. That isn't what you've implied however.

E - that's my way of saying that a stock 240 is a bigger piece of crap.

Any V6 Mustang prior to 2011 is junk.

I get 34mpg on the highway and about 23-25 city, 2000ish Mustang v6 is rated 19-20 city and 27-29mpg highway. Mustang is rated 7.5 seconds 0-60, 240sx is rated 7.8, so not really faster. Better equipped, maybe, but you've got A/C on both cars, and a cd player is $50 bucks away.

Cheaper? No, unless you go for pre-98 model, and nobody wants one of those. I bought my 240sx for $400. A friend just bought one for $700 after another friend bought it just before him for $400. Multiple other friends bought their 240s for under 1k for running, driving vehicles. The build quality is infinitely better than a 90s Ford product, minus an all too common cracked dash. And while the stock suspension is horrible, it's not 'murica spec supersoft spring rates and a live axle rear end horrible, with wonderful ford powersteering.

I was looking into an S13 as my first car myself, but ever since we picked up the Del Sol... I've still wanted the experience of a RWD manual transmission car. I love the Del Sol to death, however.

I did find a K's model for $1,000 locally - I've been to see the car, and the only thing I noticed it needed was a new set of tires - I couldn't find a single patch of rust besides one that was maybe 1/4 of an inch along the rear deck, and everything was 100% OEM.
From what I understand, it was driven by the original owner's wife until she died, then stuffed in a garage for about 7 years. Only about 85k miles.

Just in white all around. Any advice?

DO NOT PLAY WITH THE POP UP HEAD LIGHT BUTTONS. Learned it the hard way =[.

only mustang I like is the foxbody only because it kinda reminds me of the ae86.

If you can find one in the triple digit pricing range, or even low $1000s, I'd certainly prefer a 240 over a Mustang any day of the week. In most areas, however, the drifter tax is extreme and makes those deals few and far between.

The "K's" and "Q's" and ect models were only used for the Silvia line of S13s, which we never got. So what did you find again?

Still thinking they're all the same, always do and so I use the most common designation... Just like the Subaru's from the GC line. It's a KA24DE motor, 1992, in black. Manual.

If you're capable of working on it yourself, negotiate down to 6-800 and be prepared to put some work into it. Sounds like it could be a pretty good buy, but something that's been sitting for 7 years is going to have a lot of stuff that's eroded on it.

Really? Well, I would like to test drive one at least before deciding against it. But is what you're saying apply to both the S13 and S14?

I don't really want a Mustang to be honest. Not that I think they're bad cars. I'm just not interested in them. If I were to get an American RWD car, I would look at the 4th gen. Camaro first. And I have no CDs. I can live with a radio and cassette player.

Your better off with a e36 328i very tail happy

I'll have to look into those.

If your not totally against pony cars, try looking at the 95 and up 3.8 liter v6. they were pretty dead reliable and made decent power. The other thing you might want to look at is a 3rd generation camaro with a v8. They had some of the best suspension in their time and with modern rubber it still works well today. Oh and the back seats are just a little more useful, not much mind you but a little.

240s are great, great cars. Really cheap, really fun, pretty reliable. I would look into a 240 before anything else when it comes to drifting or sliding or anything involving oversteer for sure. I don't own one, nor have I owned one, but I have experience with them and they are great. Back seats are pretty tiny, just like in any 2 door car, but they work sometimes. I'd go for one if I were you. Definitely.

Though, Toyota Cressidas are amazing cars too. Much more functional rear seats too, as they have four doors. Now on topic of a fast RWD car, Supras are quite a bit faster than 240s and are pretty similar in all other aspects.

People tend to cut the brown wire for the "sleepy" mod. If you ever go for a 240sx, try looking for Rust when it comes to inspection.
