Autosport carried a report this morning that Mark Webber will be testing for Jaguar at the end of next week. Jaguar mentioned the test was being done (like Alonso's a couple of weeks ago) with an eye to 2003, and that they had not started 'official' negotiations with Eddie at this point (am I alone in reading the missing 'and we have no intention to' after that statement?).

Well, they've either got to come good or wind up. Webber's a very good tester.

There was some talk that both Irvine and De La Rosa might both go and Jaguar might take both Alonso and Webber (Britatore, their manager, would be pleased!). I personally think they'd be better putting James Courtney in next year instead of Alonso, but I am patriotically biased.

Ooh, an Australian Superteam!

Except that being based on Jaguar, it wouldn't be that Australian.

Or that super...

Nonsense! The engine is built by Cosworth in Northamptonshire, UK, and the car is built by the ashes of Paul Stewart Racing, in Milton Keynes, also in the UK.

The only thing American about it is the $$, and as Ferrari learned in the late 80s/early 90s, and Ford, Toyota and BAR are learning now, it doesn't matter HOW much money you throw at the engineers, if they're muppets you've got a crap car on your hands...

Isnt it odd though, the year before Stewart Ford Became Jaguar they seemed to be doing quite well getting lots of points finishes. The next year comes "Bok!" and there cars just went crappy? did all the stewart engineers get fired or something?

Paul Stewart got cancer.

That, coupled with Ford putting a manager who had no idea in the top job, are the two most significant contributers to the downfall of the team.

:jaguar: have had a few drivers testing the car out, including Webber..could be just investigating future talent wouldn't bet on any definate moves for next season....:teleport:

Well, Paul Stoddart indicated last week that part of the reason for the test was assessment of Cosworth engines for Minardi for next year.

Yep speaking of engines, some of the teams are gonna have to find some :2cents: to be more competitive with the likes of :ferrari:.......

But rumours are flying round that Ferrari have yet another car being produced

How far behind will the other teams fall if that happens :rscared:
