I've been getting strange clock speed readings from our P4 processor. Right-clicking on my computer has shown readings far above what they should be. I'm 100% certain that it used to give a correct reading of 2.99 ghz, as far as I know, this has only started a few days ago.

Our PC hasn't been overclocked and everything is running as it should. I'm only signalling this because I was told that 4.4 ghz is dangerously fast without any extra cooling and such.

This is what I first saw.

This is after a reboot, a little faster this time.

Yet again it shows a different speed, this is the fastest that I've seen it at.

Next I downloaded "WCPUID" to check up on the speeds.

First reading with WCPUID, exactly what it should be.

A few hours later, after a bit of gaming, this straaaaange result.

And this is what it shows right now, way too fast.

A quick look on google didn't make me any wiser. I've got no experience with any of this, so I was wondering if you guys knew something?

Thanks

I did look through the BIOS and didn't see anything about FSB & multiplier settings.

However, I just downloaded CPU-Z and gave that a try. CPU-Z gives me the all-clear, CPU running at 3 ghz. WCPUID and "my computer" still show high values, though.
