Okay so about a week ago, my family got AT&T U-Verse for our house because our internet was so slow and we wanted to watch actual HD shows. After we got it, I got a new connection for the PS3 which made it from a crappy NAT Type 3 connection, to a nice stable Type 1 connection.

All of the sudden, my PS3 cannot even connect to PSN anymore. When testing the connection, it will search for the IP address, but after that it either fails the internet connection, or fails the PSN part. I triple checked all of my settings and they are all right. Does anyone have a possible solution to this?

Firstly, this should be in the Computers & Tech section.

Secondly, are you trying to connect with a cable or over Wi-Fi?

Moved thread, thanks for the tip, I've never explored the forums well at all since I've been gone for three months.

I'm connecting over Wi-fi.

Are you in range of the router? I know it sounds silly but could it be your signal isn't getting to the PS3?

Have you tried a router reset and then tried to connect?

These are some of the common problems I've encountered before.

Go wired, first. I've had nasty connection issues using WiFi that simply weren't there when you plugged the PS3 straight into the LAN.

It can sometimes depend on your WLAN, too.

I tried wired, but it didn't even find the IP address. I go back to wireless, it shows the IP, but fails the internet/PSN part.

Is this a router supplied by your ISP or did you buy it yourself?

If you did buy it yourself, what brand is it? (cisco, netgear, etc.)

Whatever the router's brand is, is it set up to only allow certain MAC-adresses? If so, you'll need to add your PS3's MAC adress.
You can check that on the router's URL. Don't know yours but I'll give you mine so you know what to look for. Mine is 192.168.1.1

Does everything else in your house connect to the wifi???

It's highly unlikely that the modem/router AT&T supplied would come out of the game with mac address allow/deny flags.

Have you called AT&T??

I assume you had wireless before you switched. Did you use another router to connect to your old internet provider?? Did you switch the settings in your existing router to apply to the new modem/router? Or are you just using the AT&T box by itself. If you are just using the wifi provided by the AT&T box, are you sure you are connecting to it and not your old router that you might have?

Did you have any static ip settings configured in your ps3 before you switched?

Some business style modems (generally cable modems SMC manufacturer) come out with 4 lan ports on the device. Only one of those lan ports is "Active" for a internet connection. Hooking up to that good port gives you a "WAN" ip address 74.423.23.123 (not a 192.168.x.x, 10.x.x.x, 172.16.x.x) whereas the other ports will give you nothing. Sometimes a tech will give you that box not knowing and you might be trying to hook up to one of the "dead" ports. Those dead ports are used for businesses that need more than one WAN address. They aren't really dead just not setup.

Did AT&T visit your house and set it up, or did you just get the box delivered and you set it up.

If you were using a wifi router before you switched and not using it now, make sure nothing is hard wired to it, and pull the power to it.
