Internet Speed

So I have a question from a friend of mine, and I'm not at home to check this now. What internet speed does the PS3 need to run at?

The Australians and their slow connections (not counting Casio) can run online games but have problems maintaining connection outside of Australia (if memory serves). If I had to put a number on it, I'd think anything over 2meg down and half a meg up should be adequate.
