Well, it appears that this summer I will be venturing over the great pond which we refer to as the "Atlantic". For two months (June/July) I will be working for a company (don't know who/where) in Dublin. I have been chosen, along with 6 others, to participate in an Internship for Advertising. I am greatly looking forward to this but I am wondering what exactly there is to do in Ireland. I know that the UK isn't far off and I will probably be visiting London along with other cities over there but I would like any suggestions as to what I should spend my spare time doing!
 
Visit Canal street in Manchester, that'll leave a deep impresson :lol:.

In all seriousness though, what sort of things are you more interested n doing? Theres a lot to do in London, that place can easilly take a weekend just to look around but theres places to go and things to see all over.
 
You're going to Ireland, right?

Every street has a pub. Just drink drink drink!
 
Fantastic point 911. However sometimes you want a good club, or you might be interested in hikes or you might be interested in finding a local go-kart track, stuff like that. If I know what he's interested in I can tell him exactley where things are, especially if he visits London or Manchester.
 
Yeah I guess I should have been more specific into what exactly I would like to do.

I would really like to see some castles and maybe take a tour of some historic venues. I would say I am pretty out-doorsy so hiking would deffinatley be in. Finding a go-kart track would be really sweet and I would love to visit a real raceway!

I do plan on drinking, too bad I turn of-age in the US (21 :yuck: ) 2 months before I go. I figues I will get the stint of my drinking done locally in Dublin but that doesn't rule out the weekends. Apparently I am taking a class this semester that will help explain exactly where I will be staying and all of that crap.

It is just that I will be over-seas for 2 months and I will most likely be working the majority of that time, its not as if its a vacation so I have no idea what I will have the time to do. Basically any suggestions on traveling, getting aorund towns, where to avoid and stuff like that will be helpful
 
Or if he wants to hop on the Cork - Swansea ferry. I can tell him what's hot down here. :D
 
Pff that's a 4-5hour journey.

Just go to HolyHead and check on Manchester. That is if you're on the East coast of Ireland for a start.

Have no fear, theres plenty to do, Dublin itself isn't a remote place to be in, and theres lots of hiking routes and a few castles over there.

Check these sites for place to visit in the UK.
If your into castles and walking and such, maybe if you get the chance to, visit York over here in England. The city center is located inside whats left of an old castle's waslls, most of the walls are still there and you can walk all around it, theres plenty of old buildings, and parts of the castle left.

In London theres the London eye, not really much but it's there to give you a view of the city from on high.
Here in Manchester theres plenty to do and it's not that far a journey, the Trafford center can take a few hours to look around (somehow a shopping center is classed as a tourist attraction), Old trafford football ground (oh yeah), Daytona karting, I went there yesterday kicked two of my mate arses. Pubs in west Didsbury, clubs in the center, places like Deansgate locks have plenty of places for late at night from the comedy store to themed nights. Theres the living room, you can go there and pretend your someon important, like David Beckham, it's where a lot of people go like football players. Canal street if you want to spend your night in a gay bar, the science and industy museum, the railway musuem, Granada studio's, take a walk down Coronation street, have a look at a few of the BBC's tv shows behind the scenes, how they do the special effects ect. Also if you head towards the Pennines, theres literally hundereds of hiking routes you can go on, but I think the hiking may be better left to Ireland due to time.
Natural history museum in London. This place is worth a look if it's your kind of thing.

the important part, Dublin, what can you do in Dublin. You can do a Dublin bay and castle tour, vistit Boyne valley, ah what the heck, heres a site with things to do in Dublin.
 
well it sounds like there is a lot to do but I just have to find them. Hell, I would have fun just going to all the car dealerships and getting in cars that i could never own/drive in the US!

Oh yeah, Ive also heard from someone who has been to London that flights to other parts of Europe are fairly cheap. Is this true?
 
Yeah, they can be. Not just from London, you get cheap flights from Liverpool, Manchester and dublin as well, usually from BMiBaby or Easyjet or a discout airline like thoes, you don't get in flight meals or anyting, it's just an a-b service you pay for with these people, but they are cheap. For example you can fly to Malaga and back from Manchester or less than £20 with Bmibaby, check...

Anyways , there's thousands of Americans resident / studying & visiting Ireland . There's also a huge population of East Europeans though , so i hope ure not a cold war fanatic :lol:

What company do you think it is? I wish i knew. haha. Im a Advertising major and the application said there were 3 companies in Dublin that we have connections with. I dont have any of the names right now though but I should once classes resume next week.

Im reading it almost as if it was a foreign language because all of the city names and such are so much different than I am used to. I am taking notes though and hope that I will have some idea by the time I go. My goal is NOT to be some stupid American touring Europe but at least I dont have to learn a new language unless their accent there is totally unrecognizable.

I suppose it is abit weird going to cities that don't have 'New' at the beginning :sly:

The drink will be abit more expensive, simply because it is proper stuff. Not that stupid lite stuff you get (And Budweiser original isn't great itself).

The accents shouldn't be too heavy in Dublin, IIRC. However, do not attempt to do an Irish accent while there. You will no doubt do a Cork accent and you'll get alot of people's backs up. Just look at it this way, all Americans don't sound the same, and Irish accents differ alot aswell.
 
Go to the Guiness factory at sunset, it's just so cool. You get to party in the roof bar with loads of drunkards 👍 Dublin's a lovely city you won't be let down there.
 
Visit Liverpool, then Edingburgh, then Newcastle then Manchester, then Birmingham then London all in one day :lol:, then you'll see most of the different accents, seriousely, visit Newcastle, Liverpool and London for the best contrast. A heavy Geordi accent (Newcastle) is hardly recognisable to me, the Mancunian accent (Mancheseter) isn't hard to understand, neither is Cockney (London) but they do differ quite a lot, the Scouse accent (Liverpool) is imo one of the worst accents the world has ever heared, but seriously, it's vastly different the Manc and Cockney, as is Geordie but I prefer Geordie accents to Scoucers.
 
Acchh, Geordie accents are a ***** to understand. Scouse is just too much swearing and Mancunian never heard (Unless you count Gary Neville on TV).

Come to Swansea, just beware, we're the STD/STI capital of Europe :yuck:
 
Alright, I know I am reviving a long dead thread but I know a little more info now. After a possibility of interning in Warsaw, another company in Dublin came through, Grey Helme, decided to take me after TBWA dropped me due to a relocation.

I will be staying on St. George St. (I THINK) a little south of Trinity College in an apartment close to some Hurling grounds. Ill be living there for the months of June and July which leaves a good amount of time to go out and have fun in the rest of Europe.

While my instructor tried to prepare me and my roomie for as much as he could, I still would like more information on places to go and see and have the following questions:
-Being a car enthusiat, are there any "Must-see" locations such as dealers or tracks?
-Anyone have a few world cup tickets to get rid of? :sly:
-What kind of foods should I avoid/try?
-Anyone down for some GT4 action?

Seriously though, any other information that you guys here KNOW, It would be nice of you to share it. :dopey:

-What kind of foods should I avoid/try?Try just about everything. There's nothing really to avoid, just don't eat too much or you'll really put the punds on.
-Anyone down for some GT4 action?You might be a few weeks too late for the GTP meets that is being arranged. Check out the UKGTP V meet thread if you can.

And if you're at all interested in history then you might want to see a few castles. Cardiff castle is great and it's only a short trip from Caerphilly castle where a gunpowder cannon was tried for the first time against a castle structure (And the tower is still leaning from it!).

If you wanna seaside experiance in England, try Brighton, got the palace pier, marina, loads of nice pubs, clubs, loads of places to go.

EDIT: Plus if you do go to London, Brighton is only a short train ride from there:D

One last place if your into theme parks and sea side's, Blackpool, there's a lot more there than there used to be, there's the pleasure beach which is a theme park (you can have a ride on the world famous Big One), load's of bar's, club's and restaurants and pretty good night activity there.

I have travelled a hell of alot, but there seems to be a chip shop or curry road/lane just about everywhere :lol:

Forgot about that, you've gotta try a good fish and chip meal with none of that fancy foreign stuff on top. Careful though, some are much nicer than others.
 
Yeah but the curry mile is quite famous in magazines that rate restaurants and such in a good way. Do a google search for curry mile and look what comes up.

WOOO! Alright, after a few flight delays I finally made it to Dublin. I was Totally wrong in my location, I am actually in the Dumbcondra (sp?) area of Dublin, just south of the DART station and relativley near the football grounds.

For the two days I have been here, me and my roomate have explored O'Connell Street to the Liffey and some of the Temple Bar area. It is all and more than what I expected. I hope to keep eveyone posted on how things are going here and will try and visit the site as much as I can. However, because I don't have a computer, much of my time in the internet lounge will be devoted to e-mails to family and friends with little timeto explore the forums.

However, I will try and keep up with the happenings here seeing as it is one of my favorite forums :).
