Invisible Racers in Online Play?

I recently had an online race in which there were nine people on the track but i was only able to see two of the eight others. I've seen reports of others having this issue.

Anyone know why this occurs? Is there a fix/workaround?

I'm running a cat 5 cable to the dsl modem/router. I'm NAT2 with 1.3M down, 450k up.

Any insight will be appreciated.

The cars become transparent and unhittable at a certain speed (I believe it's below 50mph).
This is so if someone is stopped in the middle of the track, or just putzing around the course on a scenic cruise, you won't come racing around a corner and slam them, ruining your race.
At least this is what myself and several other people seemed to have figured out the other night during some testing.
I'm not sure if there are any other parameters that make cars switch to this "invisible" mode.
 
Yeah I noticed on a race the other day cars were about to hit eachother then both went transparent. Oddly enough I drove right through both cars. Also I hit a car at 200 plus on the straight in the 'Ring with my lambo but instead of the crash happening I flew right through him.(It was greifer I suspect since he was last and just parked sideways across the road)

Other times though it doesn't happen...
 
I'm typing about a ten-lap race in which there were nine cars in the field, but only two cars (other than mine, obviously) appeared on my track. We had a standing start, the other two were placed in their respective starting positions (they were a few rows behind me with empty slots between us).

I could hear three or four different voices but never saw their cars, from the free run to the qualifying to the actual race. It was strange.
 
if you press [start] then press the red man it sends you back to the pits where you can change car/use the chat feature/adjust settings/watch race ,etc etc when players do this it removes the car from the track, plus you dont have to enter the race so could stay like this as long as you want.
