I grew up listening to INXS, but I drifted away when I became older. I'm back to listening to them, half-inspired by Rockstar: INXS (shamefully). I watched a few episodes, didn't mind it, but (eh, call me a fanboy) I still think it's sacrilege to replace Michael Hutchence. The guy that won, JD Fortune, isn't a bad frontman, and would do well if he were to be placed in a separate band. Maybe if this were some spawn of an Idol show, and the winner got a contract with a talented band wanting a start in the music industry, but lacking a vocalist? I don't know, but I have a problem with replacing Michael Hutchence. I doubt I'll be purchasing any new INXS material. I might give it the time of day to have a listen to some of their new tracks, I guess.

Thoughts?

I love INXS! "Kick", IMO, is one of the best album of the 80's. I did catch few episodes of the TV show, and was quite impressed. I thought it was much better than the "American Idol". :indiff: If they released some of the recording from the show, I might buy it. But when it comes to the winner of the contest taking over as a lead vocalist of INXS, I don't care for it. Like Jimmy said, Michael Hutchence is pretty much INXS. Unless this JD sounds just like Hutchence, I doubt I'll like anything they might come out with.

"Don't Change" and "One Thing" are two of my most favorite '80s songs. That's about as far as I go with INXS. Fantastic, talented band, but I'm not a huge fan despite loving those two particular songs.

Similiarly, I was never a big fan or a big detractor of INXS, and I think Kick' is a great album. But INXS without Michael Hutchence is like The Doors without Jim Morrison. They should either call themselves something else or graciously retire and continue to enjoy the royalties from their glory days. I don't know what they could call themselves if they changed from INXS...?

I saw them in concert in around 1991 or so. Overall a good show; fairly straightforward but well played. I also agree that there's no point - and even, some point in not replacing Michael Hutchence.

I forgot all about it, but I heard clips of their new album "Switch" and I liked it. I found it on sale at Target real cheap, so I bought it and I must say, it's not bad. What I liked the most about was the new lead vocalist, JD Fortune. He sounds like a young Michael Hutchence with a hint of David Bowie. 👍 If they come to either Oregon or Washington on their tour, I'd love to go check out their show. I want to hear those INXS hits being sung by JD!

When I was very young I liked INXS, for the happy vibe they gave while still pretending to be a bit rebellious (skateboard pictured in "Kick" cassette insert). I thought it was very cool that they said the word "****" in a song (Guns In The Sky) and my mum would still let me listen to it! At the time I wanted a skateboard because thats what was cool at the time. I didn't care if I could ride it properly (rural area, not much concrete around), I just wanted one!

I still hate "Wishy Washy" to this day, VERY annoying song IMO.

When I designed a Lego record player with a paper cone and a pin (hi fidelity man!), INXS' "Original Sin" was the first vinyl LP I destroyed on it. The next record to get screwed was a Midnight Oil album.

Overall, I don't think INXS is bad really, I just don't listen to much current (after the 80s) pop music anymore, growing up, discovering stuff you really love.... INXS don't hold much sway when you're 12 and hear Hendrix for the first time... it was like  :boggled:   :scared: :dopey:  :D all in one!
