I thought I would make a thread for iPhone users to share some of their knowledge with the rest of GTP. So all info is appreciated. Do you have an app that might be useful to others? do you know how to do something that makes life easier on the phone or workarounds for common problems.
So I thought I would kick off proceedings with a quick tutorial/workaround for the common problem of using the iPhone as a portable storage device.
For this tutorial you will need to be using OSX (sorry Windows guys, but I don't have a PC to try a workaround for you). Also Basic wireless knowlage is needed. (Im not going into great detail on how to create wireless connections)
Make sure your connected to either your wireless connection or turn on your Airport and create a sever, if you do the latter switch wireless on your iPhone and connect to either your home wireless connection or your Mac.
Now Air Sharing is supposed to make it easy to share files between your Mac and iPhone, but I have found it to be a pain in the bottom, and to be honest Bonjour just isn't making life easy as it should. So I was getting frustrated with the app.
So I found this quick way of using the two applications together to form an easy way of transferring and sorting files on the iPhone.
Install both apps Air Sharing onto your phone and Cyberduck onto your Mac.
Run Air Sharing and when it first runs it will give you a walkthrough, when you get to the Connection part it will give you an IP address and a Bonjour address, it is the Bonjour address you need.
Open Cyberduck on your mac and where it says Quick Connect type your Bonjour address into there and select Anonymous connection so no password is needed.
Once you have done this your Mac will see the iPhone via your Cyberduck FTP client as a sever and you can then go about creating folders, deleting them and placing files into them. this was a probably a frustrating way around getting Air Sharing to work, but like I said Bonjour just wouldn't pick my iPhone up and create a link to it.
If this helps then let me know, and if you have any other work around's or apps that you think are cool then let us know.
