News for PS3 Iplayer, it has been upgraded and with better menus and functions and should now show different resolutions ( i hope this finally means HD!)
The upgrade has been brought forward as Sony Japan are closing for 2 weeks as part of a government order to save electricity after the disaster.

Edit: Confirmed can now watch HD programmes now on PS3 via Iplayer.

I haven't checked it out on my PS3 yet but from the images on the net it looks pretty slick. I'm glad that there's more functionality and its no longer based around the horrible inbuilt browser.

I hope 4oD and ITV Player also follow suit because they are just awful. If Google TV comes to PS3 (as rumored) then we will get thousands of apps and also Chrome web browsing.

I just checked it out, & now:


  • it takes ages to load, whereas before it loaded almost instantly.
  • we can't close it using the Circle button anymore, you have to press & hold the PS button, & it takes longer.
  • we can't use the Circle button to go back, we have to scroll over to a back button & click on it, takes longer.
  • we can't use the XMB whilst watching it, so if you wanna respond to a message you have to quit now.
  • it looks worse imo, the last GUI looked much slicker.


I'm think they might've employed PD's menu design team to nerf it up a bit, you know, un-optimize it a little, LMAO!

You know what's nice? Losing the iPlayer, 4OD and ITV player all at once.

Epic stuff, Sony. Continue your crusade of ****e.
 
Haven't tried it yet but nice to hear its slower and less user friendly :ouch: I really thought making it an app and not browser based would be an improvement....
