I previously created a post about Buttkickers and got excellent response and a lot of experienced users which really helped me and I'm sure others.

And similarly I find info on iphones within other posts people discussing applications or solutions but nothing dedicated. I'm hoping we can achieve the same thing with this thread.

What applications are people using for PC racing with iPhones/iPod Touch & iPads for telemetry, rev counters etc ?

I have both an iPod Touch and iPad which I would like to use.
I'm thinking the iPod Touch above/behind the wheel for rev lights, and gear etc and the iPad2 for detailed telemetry, laps, temps etc.

Application - PC racing, most likely rFactor.

Thanks, fred.e

You can use IHUD

It works great with rFactor & rFactor2 but also with Game Stock Car.

IHUD can be fully customised. You can use both displays at the same time. You only have to buy the app once. Sometimes it randomly looses it's connection and you just have to reconnect it. I recommend the gear, rev lights and postion behind the wheel. All other data can be displayed on the ipad,

One advice at least for the ipod. If you'll be running the ipod at the maximum brightness for the rev lights (at least i did), you will probably need a powercable connected to it, because i drains your ipod battery pretty fast.

I'm really into quoting myself, but in this case i can make an exception:)

Here are some posts i made about it, with some pictures from my office race rig topic to give you some ideas: https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=245923
The CSR Elite wheel is already predrilled with two threated holes for mounting a ipod holder.
A extra display with an app like IHUD adds to the immersion.:)

Since there is no saying when Fanatec will make one, i decided to make one myself today:

Personally I prefer analog gauges, tach speedometer, etc .. But there are some very cool digital apps out there as well. I run triple 55" HDTV's for iRacing and then a 7" Liliput monitor for my telemetry which is iSpeed. Derek Speare is working on a great App for digital and analog gauges which you can view Here

ATM I have a analog tach and I have a analog speedometer lined up but not in service yet. I have a single rev burner for the tach and would need another for the speedometer. There are people working on an app or rev burner that will accommodate analog gauges such as oil pressure, water temperature and so on.

So in the mean time I do use my iPhone with iHud for water temp and oil pressure and iSpeed on my 7" monitor has a gas gauge on it. I do find that iHud does discontinue working from time to time and while you are racing there's nothing you can do unless you have a spotter who can restart it for you.

Thanks everyone so far.. This is great.

What do you use to convert the digital signal from the PC to analogue?
Is it out of the box, how hard is it to configure?

Thanks..!

Do you mean for the tachometer? If so a Rev Burner is used. It is just a matter of connecting the tach to rev burner and configuring the tach. The only sim game I race is iRacing and there are cars that rev up to 11,000 RPM so I tried to find a used one in my area but could not find one. I ended up purchasing a brand new Auto Meter which goes up to 11,000 RPM. The thing to remember and this is very important is set up your tach as a 4 cylinder. Then in iRacing if you select an 8 cylinder car the tach will run in 8 cylinder mode, the same applies for a 6 cylinder. The tach is set up once as a 4 cylinder.

IHUD won't work on the PS3 will it? I'll use it for Rfactor as I've been looking for a cheap HUD for awhile now and this sounds perfect. If it works on both the PC and the PS3 that would be fantastic!

PC Only mate..

Ya none of the good stuff works on consoles afaik. Also it is very small on an iPhone, would be much better on an iPad.
