Here is a list of great resources the all iRacing members should read and it would pretty much answer most of your easier questions. If you cannot find the answer you want, feel free to ask and I am sure someone will answer it for you.

Lets see how this thread goes, I hope I wasn't the only one finding it difficult to navigate the main thread going back 2 - 3 pages just to find a reply and other main thread can be nice general discussion of iRacing.
