Is a wheel seriously worth it?

K, i seriously wanna know learn how to drift, but my bro (who's old enough to buy from the net) doesnt really take as much of an interest as i do, so he's not really bothered to buy a wheel at this time. I recently noticed that Argos (:O) is selling the Logitech wheel, and im thinking of getting it.

Question is: How much easier is it to learn how to drift (and actually drift) with a wheel than with a controller? And would it really be worth it? (btw it's about £49.99)

Thanks, and soz if its been asked lots.

Def worth it. not only for drifting. So much more fun to race with wheel if u ask me.
I can not really say if its easier to learn to drift with or without a wheel since i always used one.

//Eddie.

I, on the other hand, use the analog. If I had the money right now, I'd spring for a wheel. But right now, it's not really at the top of my priorities list.

About your question, I would think it's worth it. It's not necessary for racing/drifting. But when you think about it, sooner or later you're gonna buy one, right? ;)

Go for the wheel, I say, as long as it won't be too much of a burden financially. The GT Force Pro looks great. 👍

I use the gt force pro, it is a great wheel, a little spendy though. I started out learning how to drift with the dual shock and then i bought my wheel. Having done it both ways i would say if you have the money then get a wheel. It also makes racing a lot funner IMHO.

I use the Driving Force, I must admit. It's really fun when you use it, but after about 2 months of using it, It's sitting in the family room collecting dust till my next usage. It's not a must too have but it does make the gameplay alot better.

well worth it. you may be scared when u first get it cus i spun so much. but after about 15 minutes i was used to it and you car is easier to control on behalf of better throttle and steering control

I'd say more than 15 minutes, for me it took hours and I drift in real life too so you'd think it would be easy. It does take some getting used to and it will be discouraging at first, but just remember to change the steering assist to Professional right off the bat and you will love it I garauntee. Makes drifting on a controller seem ludicrous.

As far as your bro, as he gets better at driving he will start to realize the difficulty involved in drifting. As he realizes that, he will become interested. Catches them every time. How do you think we all got here? lol

im sorry i think i may have shortened the timing a bit more like about 45 minutes...but i learned quickly cus i go to dave and busters alot ( big arcade restaraunt) and i play racing games alot...

I was drugged and dragged here by men in white lab coats and a black and grey van with an orange stripe down the side.

If you do get a wheel, just make sure you give it the proper setup or you won't really benefit from it. But I think you will like it, its rewarding to drive with the wheel and even more satisfying to be able to drift with it. Go for it!

I found the transition from DS2 to wheel pretty frustrating, and actually have put my wheel aside and just use my DS2 for now, just seems more enjoyable for me. With the wheel unless I turn up the sensitivity I just cant turn quick enough like the DS2.

I had both the Driving Force, and the GT Force Logitech wheels. I think they were both a little screwed up though, because I would just get jerked from left to right, while trying to go down a straight, and it would jerk around randomly sometimes. Thinking that this would mess up my drift skill, I went back to the Dual Shock. However, I will be getting the Driving Force Pro, sooner than later, so I will be getting used to that. I think I have reached a sort of plateau with my drifting technique, using the Dual Shock. I think I need a wheel, if I'm going to further my skill, and technique....................................;)

:O
I am in the process of selling all my worldly possesions to afford this.
You're right Sil, the older Driving Force wheel jittered and jerked for seemingly no reason, however it could have been a calibration error.
I ended up selling mine, then about 2 years later bought a MadCatz MC2 which I ended up returning.

Let's hope I have better luck with this DFpro.

No, Maybe you should try to read through, before posting. The driving force wheel was just poor construction, so I got rid of it. The driving force wheel was used, and it just never acted right. It would pull really hard, when there was nothing adding force to the car, on screen. It was just meesed up in a few ways, so I got rid of it. I'm waiting to get the DFP. ;)

Oooh, alright. I'll pretend that made sense. :) The wheel works fine. I'm betting A) You sucked with it, or B) Yours was messed up. But whatever, I'm not arguing about your 'skillz'..

If you are used to a controller, I'd stick with the controller. I bought a MadKatz MC2.....can't use it. Gave up and went back to the controller........which, incedently, is a PS1 controller. Will be getting another Dualshock 2 to replace the one my friend broke.

finally someone else who uses an old ps1 controller.. i used to use it bcuz my ds2 was broken but now i use it cause its wireless..so i can lay down when i play.

Someone else who takes out their anger on replaceable objects.

I had a MadCatz MC2 wheel, but I highly reccomend saving your money for a DF Pro. I ended up getting it exchanged and running into the same problems so I got a refund and replaced my bust ass Dualshock 2 controller.
