Suppose I want to initiate an online race for GT5p at a certain date/time and the topic header would read like: "Our GTP GT5p race at: Fuji, Pro, 20080405-23:30 CET", would someone be able to use the same topic to initiate a next race, without having to resort to a new topic, but just change the heading? Or maybe there is another method available here that I have not seen. :)

Only the thread creator can change the thread's title.(Unless you're on of the Staff)

So you'd have the change the title yourself whenever a new title was needed, or you may be able to give permission to somebody and let the mods know about it so they can change it for you. I don't really think the latter would be a good option seeing as how they're all so busy keeping the place under control.

I agree, the mods should not be needed to be involved. It would require some kind of sub-community to be linked to a certain topic, where the topic starter is in control. I have not seen such forums anywhere yet, but it would be a nice addition though.

Yes, other than staff, only the thread creator can change the title of the thread. The thread creator can also change the location of the thread as well.

There is one way to do what you are looking for, but it will require trust and discipline on your parts. You can create a dummy account with your team's username, then (privately) give the login details to the people who would be handling the stewardship of your races.

That way whoever was posting the current race could log in as the team name, then change the thread as needed.

The potential for abuse of that system grows as more people know the login information, so it would have to be a small group of users who trust each other in the team. Any infraction performed by the anonymous shared account would result in it being banned immediately. But if you are careful with it, it should work fine for what you wish to do.
