Is Forza 4 good enough to justify buying a XBOX?

I don't have a XBOX 360. If I were to buy one and Forza 4, would it be worth the money, or would I have to buy other games to get my moneys worth? Is it still worth it if I do not get a xboxlive account?

I have a PS3 and only play GT5 and occasionally CoD.

No, not at all. Buying a full console plus $60 a year for online only for one game is a big rip-off. You will be missing a lot on Forza without online (online races, storefront, auction house, achievements...)

I bought my 360 solely for FM4 (and got FM3 bundled with the system). It's an extravagance, sure, but my system was a clear-out special (older 250gb FM3 package special for $180), and it's cheaper than building up a PC for sim racing ;).

You get a month of Gold free, and a second month for $1, if that helps at all.

I would say yes. As a longtime Sony/Playstation fan, I never thought I would own a 360 until Forza 4 came along.

Of course, I got the 1 month of XBL Gold free plus another month for $1, so I haven't spent much for online yet. I will see if my opinion of the 360 changes when these two months of Gold run out :)

It was better value for me than the PlayStation 3 in that there are at least three iterations of Forza instead of one on the console. Multiplatform pad racing releases play better with the Xbox pad than the DualShock for me due to the longer throw triggers.

Forza 4 is a great game, so it is worth buying an Xbox 360 to play it. There are other great Xbox-exclusive games as well, such as Project Gotham Racing, Race Pro, Gears of War, Splinter Cell, etc.

If you ask me the strength of the xbox is it's online functions. If you don't get a live account you're doing yourself an injustice. There are groups everywhere to join so you really wont have a problem with that. You can sink hours in Forza in what feels like a blink of the eye.

A secondhand Xbox is fairly likely to RROD. Unless you get a more recent one after they started changing things to fix the problem, and you're certain it didn't live in a dusty old house with 7 cats, on a shag-carpeted floor, under a pile of dirty laundry, in front of a heater vent.

It could turn out fine, but it's only fair to warn you.

I have the opposite Q.......Is it worth the cost of a PS3 for GT5?......seriously.

Unless racing sims are literally the only thing you play, I can't possibly imagine any game being worth the cost of a system. Having said that, at this point, both systems have plenty of exclusives or better versions of multi-platform games, and the cost to own each has been greatly reduced; so, owning both seems like a no-brainer...unless of course you're a psychotic console fanboy, but that requires having no brains. :)

...

...I'm not positive that joke makes sense.

I actually bought a PS3 for Demons Souls. I like the PS3 for a media center. I picked up GT5 for it, after spending a month with the game, I realized if I bought it just for GT5 I would have been very upset.

My opinion...for a racing centric console, Xbox cannot be beat. Shift2 better on Xbox, F1 2011 better on XBox, Dirt3 better on Xbox. And right now you cant get a better racer than FM4.

Maybe I should re-evaluate my temptation to buy a gaming PC just for IRacing... :nervous:

It depends on how much you like racing games. I bought an Xbox solely for the Forza Motorsport series but have also bought quite a few exclusives that I really enjoy as well, Race Pro being my favorite.

I was honestly disappointed with Forza 4. It is a fantastic game and extremely fun but it just doesn't hold me like the Gran Turismo series does. But like I said, I think you'll discover other gems on the console that you'd never know about until you go looking.

Zebrawire, the same thing applies to you pretty much. Personally I feel Gran Turismo 5 is well worth the asking price of a PS3 (although I'm sure many on here disagree, not that it really matters) but just like with the 360 there are a ton of exclusive titles that you should get as well, some that aren't even racing games. Ferrari and Supercar Challenge are fantastic (although you'll have to import the latter if you're in the US) and if you own a PS3 you should have the Uncharted series in your collection. There are numerous exclusives that make owning both consoles a wise decision.

You dont even need a high powered rig to run it. I am using one I built 4 years ago, and with everything on high getting 59-86 pfs on a race with 12-20ish others.

iRacing IS worth it. In fact, I have another PC I built about 6 years ago, and a DFGT that I am thinking of making a second account, setting that PC/Wheel up just for some fun when friends come visit.

I bought a PS3 for GT5 and it opened up a new gaming experience, perhaps the xbox will do the same for you. Forza is a good game, but IMO no game is reason enough to purchase a console, unless you will keep an open mind and utilize it's full potential.

PS- Get the best of both console worlds.

No, but the ps3 overall is just a more "robust" system. All I ever do with my 360 is play games, that is what it's meant for, but with the ps3, gaming is just a part of its purpose.
I would not have gotten a 360 if I had to pay more for my 360 experience than I did around black friday. No way.

I agree. I don't even have several of the more popular racing titles, but I still have a whole library. Most are multiplatform, but there's the exclusive PGR4, which is a great game, and a friend of mine has Hydro Thunder Hurricane for XBLA, which is a good one to pick up if you were a fan of the original.

Plus, as a practical matter, the 360 controller's triggers are much, much more comfortable to use than the PS3's, IMO. The DS3/Sixaxis always feels on the verge of slipping out of my hands; I get hand cramps after less than an hour just trying to support the damn thing, thanks to the big flappy triggers.

Sadly I did Just that and ( bought a PS3 just for GT5) it was easily one of the worst purchases I have ever made.

The car sounds in GT5 are just wrong for some of the cars ( best example the NASCARs). And you have to unlock car damage..... I'd play Forza 3 any day over GT5, yes Forza 3.

Ugh, you do not "unlock" car damage.

You can easily find a decent xbox 360 on craigslist for $100 or less. If you're broke offer the guy selling it a trade for something. There's plenty of good games on the xbox. I agree with the other people - you don't need xbox live to enjoy forza 4. I just bought 2 months for $2. I hardly ever use it b/c I'm usually dead last when I play online. Also you should be able to pick up forza 4 cheap on craigslist as well. If you hate it, then sell them both. If you got a good deal, you can break even.

@ Vitamix. The ps3 is very useful as a blu ray player even if you don't like the games. Also you can load up the hard drive with a bunch of music to play through your stereo.

First off....Thanks to all who replied to my Q about purchasing a PS3. I think I would be better off investing in pc gaming as there are some good ones coming out, like Assetto Corsa, rFactor 2.

peobryant...you say you like Race Pro. I have this game in my collection, and rarely play it. There seems to be quite a few people who really like this game. It seems to be quite antiquated compared to new racing titles. What is it about RP? I have played a small amount of career. The graphics seem poor quality. What am I missing? I respect your preference and don't mean to offend. I get a "kick" out of seeing one of the the AI racers(Career ) named after a real life sim racer, like you and me..... Greger Huttu. :odd: Kinda cool. What is it that people like so much about this game? Maybe I need to dust it off and get playing. Thanks :)

Race Pro is the console version of Race 07. I still suggest of you already have an Xbox, get a PC. Like I said eariler it doesnt have to be top of the line for the older sims and even iRacing. The selection of sims is great.

Xbox live one year subscriptions go on sale for $40 some times. Just got two from best buy a week ago. That's $3.33 a month. Got them at Costco once before that.
