I'm sure you've all played just about all (if not all) of the Gran Turismo games. And over the years, each new GT has been an improvement overall. But, I'm sure many of you find yourselves returning to the old games, and saying "This is the greatest game ever". I definately have, finding myself playing GT2 more than any other. For those of you who agree, let me know what YOU THINK seperates GT2 from the rest.

GT2 is tied for 2nd best in my opinion, with GT4. Reason being that the race system is weird, and can still make races unfair anyway. GT1 is my personal 'best', because, while it doesn't have as many pros as some other GTs, it has no drawbacks. For me anyway.

GT2 is my personal favourite, I suspect it's mainly for nostalgic reasons more than anything though. That said, I love the physics, as unrealistic as they could be at times, and the car list is, in my opinion, second to none.

I have played only in first two parts (because of my old console and unability to buy newer version), so GT2 is best driving simulator I ever played.

I think GT2 is the best in the series as well. It's always been the game with the most fun factor to me and I think it has the best car list in the series.

hmm, tough decision between GT1 and GT2 , GT2 has a lot better car list (European models), better feel of drive and weight, more tracks, more races, nicer dashboard and more bugs :)
Although GT1 has more fun to drive model, nicer Race Modifications and championship races.

Both are my firsts.

I agree!! I think if GT5 had all the cars from GT2, and all the old music....it would make me happy :)
Just imagine a remake of GT2 for PS3....nomm

For me Gran Turismo 4 is and quite possibly stay as the best GT, or entire game for that matter, ever created.

um sorry but i gotta go with GT4. i just don't like the way GT2 doesn't warn you about an upcoming turn, or doesn't provide any info for gearing. but GT2 does come in second place at least ;D

The problem with the newer games is the lack of events as you have so many cars, but so little events. GT3 was the complete opposite however. To me GT4 was the worst GT I've ever played. Don't get me wrong it was fun, but something felt odd about it, like the same thing or, like I heard someone say, "Just 'cause the graphics are better, doesn't mean the game is better.".
That's how I look at GT4

The thing that really gives GT2 it's name is it's variety. There are no cars with 3 different names like in GT5. RMs where also nice too, since they're VERY cheap to get very early on.

Everybody here who knows me won't be surprised to hear GT2 is my favorite. 12 years later and I'm still not close to being done having fun with it, so much so that I've not yet played GT3, GT4, or GT5...

But I'm replying mainly to list the multiples in GT2, of which there are in fact a few. And other than the obvious multiples, there are the many variations of essentially the same model, with sometimes inexplicably better performance coming from the older models! But this is part of the charm of GT2 for me.

Camaro Z/28 Coupe '97 and 30th Anniversary edition, same cars really
Mustang GT '98 and '99, too close to tell the diff, also with SVT Cobras
Accord SiR-T '97 and '98
Beat normal, Ver F and Ver Z
5 NSX GT's
Esprit V8 GT and SE
all the cars with Aero versions are the same except slight cosmetic diff
2 GT-R R33 GT's
3 GT-R R34 GT's
Stagea Autech Ver 260RS '97 and '98
3 Celica SS-II's are basically the same, though Elegant gets less peak hp
GT-One Race Car '98 and '99
Levin/Trueno duplicates except pop-up lamps, and '83 and '85 are basically the same, so that's 4 of the same in that generation, and then 2 each in '96 and '98
3 Supra GT's
2 Silvia GT's

... okay, that's not so bad, still like 575 out of 600 unique

At least it's not as bad as GT5 with over a quarter of plain duplicates. I never pay attantion to this kind of stuff anyway though.

Why cant the muscle cars in gt5 sound as good as they did in gt2, especially the 67 Cougar when fully built.

One of the things I liked in GT2 was the fastest lap and top speed at each track. I definitely place above 1,3&4, but 5 is by far and away my favorite, just for the sheer replayability through the seasonals.

You shouldn't need those things to begin with.

Well, we all know that PD has deliberately shortened the learning curve/made the game more accessible to casual gamers in order to reach a wider audience and sell more copies. The players who could fall in love with GT1 and GT2 are the hard core gamers who think that a lot of the additions to later versions do little more than water the game down..

If Gran Turismo 2 had Gran Turismo 4's event types then GT2 by a mile.
Imo it is the most complete game though because I thought the big point was able to take your mom's minivan and make it a touring car. And so far only in GT1 and 2 you were able to do that.

yes, that is i was talking about, miss it ! in GT5 you SLS AMG, McL F1 and so..but these cars are less frequently used apart from GT1, 2.
Wagon Cup for example in GT2.
Yes i would love to have championship sustaining from like 10 races, each 20km distance, but still GT2 was closest to that type of racing. (just not only supercars)
