Is GT3 harder to get into than GT2?

I wasn't sure about GT3 when I first got it. In GT2, I seemed to acquire excellent cars very quickly and get some major headway in the game straight from the off.

The absence of used cars obviously makes your initial choice somewhat limited, and no cash for upgrades means scrabbling around the Sunday and Clubman for long enough to acquire cash.

I went away from GT3 for a while after my first go at cracking GT mode. I was also in a huff because I bought it a few weeks before it went Platinum (huh!).

This time, I did it right. I got the MX-5 by going all gold on the B licence and that solved the problem of cash for upgrades (and zipping through the initial races helps).

The major turning point was buying a Lancer Evo VII GSR and blowing away the majority of Beginner. Then ponying up for a RUF CTR2 and doing it up to the max for Like the Wind to get the Mazda 787B. It's my current killer machine!

Now I'm on 48% and going well. But that first time I tried, it felt like I was getting nowhere. Do you know what I mean?

Yes, GT3 is a lot harder to get into than GT2.

Then there's the almost complete lack of cars I like (except GT40s and Vipers), which kinda screws the game over even more.

This is another good point. If you're going to pay full price for a game, you might as well get it when it comes out. If you're a bargan shopper and you *think* it might be a 'best seller' you might as well wait for the price break.

well since before i played GT3 i hardly played GT2 at all and i found getting into GT3 very easy, i guess it depends on whether you have played GT2 before or not.
I actually found getting into GT2 HARDER!
well it may sound strange but its true. Yet i think once you really get into the game like when you have some nice cars, you have completed around 20% of the game and then you begin to feel that you should complete it because this is a good game.

Yes Neep, you are very much correct about that. The lack of used cars in GT3 makes it a much more difficult game to break free in without going the "Gold License" route.

Getting going it GT2 was simply a matter of knowing which cars were gamebreakers. One of the best was the '93 Supra turbo. You could get that car for a little over 3,000 Cr and mod it up to gobble up competition throughout most of the game.

I think the real charm of used cars though, was that it made it more likely you could drive YOUR car in GT2, which was always quite fun.

GT2 is increadibly easy once you've played it for a month.

GT3 retains a bit of a challenge and the quality of the cars is much better. The LM cars and the F1 cars in GT3 are much better than GT2.

GT3 = Quality over Quantity.

GT2 was, indeed, a barrage of new stuff.
many new tracks.
wheels (i was so happy when i found out about that).
multitudes of new cars.
a bunch mnore races.

GT2 was easy to get into wether or not you'd ever played (or heard of) GT. GT3, as absolutely awesome as it is, is generally the same game with different cars and less of them.
i, myself, found GT3 just as easy to get into as the other 2, but i can see why someone would think otherwise.
it's still my favorite. :)

hmm.... yeah my friend basically refused to buy gt3 cause it didnt have the MGF in it :(

not being an MG fan myself, i had no problems with that :p

yeah, i would not buy a game just because of a certain car make is not in it, for all i care it could have yugo(ok the company sucks) in it and i would still buy it, i buy games for there genre, originality, playability and how easy is it to look at, GT3 has all this, i find it easier to get into than GT2.

Hopefully the poly crew know about these forums well i believe they do because if it was me developing a game i would sure as hell check out the boards to see what the hardcore :gt: fans really want

Who knows it could be someone that post's alot but does not give the game away or someone that just reads the post's but does not interact with then

Or i could be a Poly team member you never know :p

ummm.gt2 i think was easier to get into then GT3....you have to work for your money in gt3. GT2 all u need is a nice skyline or tommy kiara and rn the muscle car cup.....sorry for the spelling in a hurry.

i thing gt3 is alot easier for me menus and whatnot are alot cleaner and the presentation is just better. gameplay wise i like gt3 better also as i like the odometer and real play dynamics of the whole thing

I certainly agree its easier to get started in GT2. I would also like to purport that GT3 in general is a lot harder.

I am about halfway through amateur races and I'm finding that the races are a bear to win...almost to the point of not being fun.

I even went and bought a second game believe it or not!!!

I've won a GT-One at this point and sure, I can win the races with that, but I'm having a hard time with my tuned Skyline and Esprit. I figure the league is called Amateur so I shouldn't be using a professional car, right?

I am also finding that I was relying very heavily in GT2 on Super Soft tires. They were useful on a much higher percentage of the races in GT2 since tire wear wasn't tracked as much. Guess I'm not as good as I thought! :(

Anyone have any advice on finishing up the Amateur league?
