Looking at the supposed GT5 demo on E3 it seems GT4 can handle much more than the PS2 console could deliver. GT4 stopped where the hardware limitations started to appear. That's why we still get a few cars on the starting grid and, in my opinion, that's why AI is much more like GT3 was. A stronger AI would require some more CPU power, what the PS2 hasn't.
When I bought my PS2 combo with GT3 I said to myself "they release something that goes close to the limit of the PS2 hardware". For a long time I saw other games that simply couldn't be compared with the quality of GT3. When I saw PD would release GT4 I thought "GREAT!!!!" but then I realised "how could they provide better stuff then GT3 if GT3 goes close to the limit"... that's what we see on GT4... improvements in many ways but not impressive new stuff. Graphics became a little better (development could do some miracles with algorithms), put a little of customer feedback and that's it. They couldn't push more.
I really expect GT5 would represent to GT4, if not more, the same that GT3 represented to GT2.
New platform = crushing new huge amazing enormous impressive new stuff!!!
That's the minimum acceptable
