GT as a franchise has it's ups and downs. If it were about the money, PD would NEVER put the passion and devotion that they do into each release.
GT1 - Tipped the scale in automotive gaming and set a new standard, and genre, to what driving games can become to the general public.
GT2 - Took it a step further. Not much changed, but it was a much-anticipated expansion of what the first one offered up. It included bug fixes, added options, more race modes, etc etc.
GT3 - For the time and hardware, it was grpahically astonishing. The game lacked a bit of the depth, I feel, that the first two offered, but in all, it marked a serious evolution in the series' advancement. The emotion engine for AI - weak as hell, but inventive. The notion is still being played with, and needs time to develop. Sim tires, adding to the realism of the game's prospective realism - the lifeblood of GT. This is a masterpiece in it's own right, and others may argue, but I feel it deserves recognition.
GT4 - I haven't played this one yet, but I GREATLY anticipate it. There's no reason not to. The series has expanded and re-instituted some oldschool features, such as the used car dealers. Nitrous has been added (deal with it, Ky wants realism, real people use No2) as well as the ability to further tune your downforce by adding an adjustable wing. Just by reading this forum alone, you'll see how the game has developed into such an expansive new experience. I believe that this is best illustrated by the inclusion of
Photomode. What better way to remind the player that as hardcore a sim as GT may be, it's all just for fun in the end.
These are my opinions, and take on the series so far. Disagree as you may, I will not sway from where I stand. Ky and PD try hard, and they deliver. A little typo about a car's drivetrain and some of you flip out like a spidermonkey on speed. Famine said it best in this post right
HERE.
Please enjoy your gaming experience, and appreciate what PD and Sony have done for you. Otherwise, save your reciepts and return your game so that someone else may.
