World Rally Championship's next game: Racing live against rally heroes
Friday, April 24, 2009

The next generation WRC computer game will allow players to 'compete' in live rallies", states ISC chairman Neil Duncanson in the April version of SportBusiness International magazine. ISC, the global promoter of the World Rally Championship (WRC), mentions WRC's ultimate goal as building up an online gaming world championship alongside the real thing.
ISC and the computer gaming industry believe the next step in gaming is this 'live' competition between gamers and real drivers, made possible through iOpener's patented technology.
ISC CEO Simon Long says: "Now we are a global promoter, we want this to be multi-platform, multi-publisher, multi-territory."
For Long and Duncanson the new game is part of WRC's broader efforts to appeal new fans beyond the hardcore enthusiastics. FIA's chairman Max Mosley has said the virtual champion will be honoured at the WRC's annual end-of-season awards ceremony in Monaco.

Now, since the E3 video showed the WRC logo..............

See what I'm getting at? Or am I putting two and two together and getting 17. Bear in mind though that this isn't expected to happen until 2011, still, how long has PD got the license for?

That's interesting, but I think it's referring to an official WRC title?

Not sure what to expect really, we'll just have to wait and see what becomes of it. I would, however, at the very least expect something like this to be featured in DiRT 2.

JUst played the DIRT2 demo.....I didnt like it. :(

On topic: Sounds interesting to race against real drivers regrdless if its GT5 or not. Sure hope it is GT5 though because i'll smoke them! :)

While it would be interesting, I can't see it happening for GT if its only gonna be one series. If they were talking multiple(which even then seems farfetched), I could see it more likely.

They have the demo??!!!

yes. In italy came out at 6pm today. I tried it and it's not rally.. it's something like motorstorm not real rally.

About the news, i dont' think it will be related to gt5 at all.

It could be GT5 related, but it depends on whether the Rally physics line up with what they expect from a simulation. I'd put more weight on Simbin's offering, but we'll see.

As for DiRT 2, that's a shame. I can't say I'm encouraged by recent Shift videos either. They look arcade out the wazoo, and if that's true, the real games are going to be GT5, Supercar Challenge and FW3.

MGR
Translation: the new game will be an arcade style piece of garbage.

Good thing your not a translator, it clearly says beyond.

Which means they still want to appeal to the hardcore market, but also to the casual gamer.

They are taking this approach with F1 also (another FIA sport).

How they plan to achieve this is yet to be seen, however i imagine it will involve easy accessible races that you can just jump into and race against AI or Friends. And a more in depth championship mode.

Supercar Challenge

I've had a few games on the Beta of Supercar challenge - and I'm not massively impressed...

The Graphics are like PS2 standard - and I can't seem to feel the cars at all - maybe I need to give it more time?

C.
