very interesting. tell me more about this.

Well, it's a sport, which is driven on a short circuit (about one kilometer, or two third mile) that contains some 50% loose (sand, grind, ...), and 50% tarmac. First you've got the practice laps (2-4) and the timed practice (which determines the startplace in the first heat). These are driven solo, you've got more cars at the same time on the track (6-10), but they all start with a certain time between them, so if they have a less or more similar speed, they wont meet each other. After this practise sessions, the drivers run 3 manches, and each manche consists several heats. In this heats, there are 3 to 5 cars that race at the same tame (against each other). In this heats, their is a lot of contact, but when you've got to much contact, you can get a black flag, or get stuck into the sandtraps. In the heats, their is a fight for the first place, but more important is the time that you race. Because of the large amount of participants (certainly at the european championship races), their are more heats /manche, and the times of all the drivers are placed in one table. the best time get's one point, the second one 2 points, the third one 3 points... After the 3 heats, the points of the 2 best times of each driver are putted together, and they make a rank. The first place is for the one with the least points, and so one... Than it's time for the great spectacle, the finals. In most european classes, there are 3 finals in each class. The C-Final, for numbers 11 till 16, the B-Final, for the numbers 6 till 10 and the winner of the C-Final, and at last the A-Final, with the numbers 1 till 5 and the winner of the B-Final. So in theory, it's possible to be ranked 16 after the heats, and still win the A-Final (and the whole event). But practicly, it has happened only 2 times, in the 40 year history of rallycross.

I will add some examples of circuits and time tables etcetera...

Now about the raceclasses. I will start with the main fia-classes

Division 2 : 2 wheel drive group N (so very standard) without turbo's or compressors, with maximum 2-litre engines (the european standard). This class is in his last years.
Some popular cars:
Opel Astra OPC (this years champion) => +200Bhp : http://www.rallycross-photo.com/photos06/20060812/nmimage.php?z=08.jpg&width=640&height=426&title=08 - www.rallycross-photo.com

Honda Civic Type R => +200Bhp : http://www.rallycross-photo.com/pho...640&height=426&title=www.rallycross-photo.com

Division 1a : 2 wheel drive group A (so with many changes, but still according with the international fia-rules) without turbo or compressors, 1.6 litre engines
Some popular cars:
VW Polo (this years champion) => +220Bhp : COLOR="Navy"]http://www.rallycross-photo.com/pho....php?z=112.jpg&width=640&height=426&title=112 - www.rallycross-photo.com[/COLOR]

There are Rallycross events in Poland, but not many people spectate it. :(
We have a bit different divisions,
Class 1 - Polish Fiats 126.
Class 2 – Fiats Cinquecento and Seicento, displacement above 1.1 liter,
Class 3 – Displacment above 1,6 liter, average tuning,
Class 4 – Displacement over 1,6 liter, many mods, cars without FIA homologation are allowed. It's like European Div 1, but not that elite :)
BTW. This guy in VW Polo is Polish :)

This is my car but I wasn't driving it. Pic taken in Arendonk.
My car almost won everything in it's division. The driver was Paul Smets the brother of Joël Smets (motorcrosser).

By the way: Welcome to GTP and enjoy your stay.

Ah, ok plezant, is ne andere belg tege te kome:p

This is the resume of my rallycross-explanation for all the americans on this forum, kikie and szymoniec can correct me when i 'm wrong.

Now the main fia-class, the Division 1 : 4-wheel drive group A (normal street cars, with many modifications, but still according to the international fia-rules), with 2-litre restricted turbo engines, with power output from 500 till 600 Bhp, and an acceleration from o till 66 mph in less 2.5 seconds (by the top cars). You know, these are asome specifications. Most of the cars are based on the WRC-versions, but there exceptions. The top cars in this class
Skoda Fabia T16 4x4 : this years champion : http://www.rallycross-photo.com/photos06/20060813/130.jpg
Citroen C4 T16 4x4 and Xsara T16 4x4 : last years champion :http://www.rallycross-photo.com/photos06/20060820/124.jpg
http://www.rallycross-photo.com/photos06/20060820/78.jpg
Peugeot 206 T16 4x4 : http://www.rallycross-photo.com/photos06/20060820/43.jpg
Ford Focus T16 4x4 (2001, 2004 and 2006 version): http://www.rallycross-photo.com/photos06/20060820/98.jpg
http://www.rallycross-photo.com/photos06/20060812/196.jpg
http://www.rallycross-photo.com/photos06/20060819/141.jpg
Ford Fiesta T16 4x4 : Fastest acceleration (0-66mph in 1.7-1.8 seconds!) : http://www.rallycross-photo.com/photos06/20060820/74.jpg
Saab 9.3 ASS T16 4x4 : http://www.rallycross-photo.com/photos06/20060813/116.jpg

There are also some classes that aren't following (or not following it completely) the FIA-rules, and this are mostly classes in the national championships. Mostly this are budgetclasses, but sometimes it are specatcle reasons, or the participation of outhomologated cars (cars are only fia-homologated for a certain period, after that period, the car disappears from the international racing scene).

The French Division 3 (T3F) : This are 2-wheel drive versions of the cars from the french ice-racing championships. With a carbonfibre body, tubelar chassis and powerfull engines, it is one of the most spectacular racing disciplines in france.

The Supernationals : This is a whole scandinavian low budget structure that is divided in 3 classes, according to the displacement, but all with rear wheel drive. Normally you would think that this isn't so special, but because the topclass (class 3) have raced some support races by the european chamionship races at belgium, germany, norway and sweden, the supernational drivers gained some honour because of their 'sideways' drifting and close racing to the limit (even for a support race without any importance, many drivers brought spare bumpers etcetera, and they used them...). These drivers race with +300Bhp Volvo's (S40 and 240, but also oldtimers like the PV), Porsches and BMW's (M3 E30-early nineties and M3 E46-early 21th century)

Here i've got an example, how a rallycross timesheet look like (the time and point system) : http://www.duivelsbergcircuit.be/ek13aug/h3/Results%20heat%203.htm

I've explained it now i think, but if you don't get something, just ask about it...
