Now that endurance saves are in our game, I can do the 24 Hours of Le Mans race, but I plan to use a '97 McLaren F1 GTR race car . I've raced against the AI in this before but I can barely keep up with the LMPs. So, have any of ya'll tried this race in a GT car? And more importantly, do you think it's possible or am I probably just going to fall behind and waste my time?

It's really up to your skills. The car is most likely to keep up with the AI as the AI barely pushes the cars to their limits. Maybe with some fine tuning you'll be on the safe side.

I haven't, but I think you can win, but not by much. You will have to rely on your own driving skills and stupid AI mistakes. If you can keep up in the first place, you have a shot at winning.

Its gunna come down to pit strategy. You're gunna have to be very consistent about it and time it perfectly.

Also if you want to be a bastard, put the 2nd place guy into the gravel. The ai is VERY slow when passing. it would take him an hour to move up 5 positions

F1 GTR can win @770hp on racing soft tyre.

The Al LMP's will kill you on the Mulsanne straight, but other than that The AL are too stupid.

I don't agree that the AI are stupid, at least now in Spec II. I do think they will have more in-line pace than the Mclaren but if you have the skills to get around the second half of the track on the racing lines at a good pace you should beat them there.

I believe that given enough speed through the second half of the track even a car with a relatively large disadvantage to the LMPs could earn a victory, making all the time count in the bendy sections. (BMW M3 GTR Race Car or Zonda R LM Race Car for example)

With saves do you have to do the race once you save and not do anything else in game until you finish or quit, like if you save and quit, and a new seasonal comes up do yo have to finish or quit the 24 hr first before doing the seasonal?

If you suspend a race it pretty much suspends the whole of GT until you either resume the race or cancel it. It renders the game unusable while suspended.

Yes ive done it in this car before ingame save was introduced. My next quest is to do it in a road car either the Mclaren F1 or Italia 458, did a few explority laps yesterday in the 458 and was still leading at 1st pit 10 laps in so I think its possible, depends how much i slow down in the night and fatique as I had 15 second lead at that pit.

If you have more than 1 acc on the same PS3 you can still suspend on acc [A] then log out, log into acc and play till your hearts content, log out and whenever you feel like carrying on the endurance log back into acc [A].

Try the three tunes for that car on here and see if any of them help you

I'd been wondering if that was a possibility as it seemed highly likely it was I just haven't tried it yet. Cheers for the info. 👍

Does GT5 have the massive chassis wear that plagued so many peoples GT4 Le Mans attempts?

I think a chassis will hold up throughout the race. I may tend to go off towards the end though. I used the same 430 Scuderia for 2 4 hour endurances and doing the Ferrari seasonal many times and only then did it require a chassis restore.

So....to answer your question. I think chassis wear is probably less evident on the 24 LeMans in GT5.

I just recently won it with the 1989 Nissan R89CP race car. Unmodified, RS tires. I finished like ten laps ahead of 2nd place.

So for a close race it's definitely worth trying it in a RX8 LM Race Car or the GT40.

I think it would make it so much more spectacular if mechanical damage was implemented and cars required a pit stop to repair the damage.

I think my Nissan was somewhere around 720pp.

Since it's such a long race, try not to waste your time. Don't be under 700pp!

That's the worst thing about the 24hr races, you want them to be close and difficult but you also don't want to race for all that time and not win forcing yourself into having to do it again. Such a pain to get it just right, on the one hand you can have a hard race crash and not win, on the other you can thrash everything in sight which isn't a challenge as such and you end up just racing against your own times. It's why I've been deliberating over which car to use for ages now and I'm still unsure what to go for.

I found similar issues with the 4 hour race at the 'Ring. Too fast, it's boring. Too slow, lose.

I came to the point where I just started racing without care of losing and I've now finished the race out of the top spot as many times as I've won. It really makes for a real race feel.

I don't think I'd attempt it on such a long race though. Losing would just cause misery. Careful car consideration is a must.

Yeah, about that.. The McLaren I'm using is at 664PP. I want challenge. :dopey: That's the reason why I picked this car.

Appreciate the link. I'll try them out and see if they're better than my setup ;).

Actually I don't think I can have an advantage by pit strategy, this is what I'm expecting to be a big problem. I'll be pushing the McLaren, and I'll be shredding my tires while the LMPs can cruise and pit laps later than me. Like people have said here, I know I'm going to have to make up my time in the bends after the mulsanne straight.
Edit: Also, driving aggressively isn't my style :p.
