Yep. It's damn cool. I wouldn't midn owning one if they brought it out. It never looks dated. Although they coyld get tid of those caps/alloys. Maybe put some upgraded originals on.

I like the GT-40. Have since I was about 4. (That's when Ford beat Ferrari 1-2-3 at LeMans.)
But the coolest thing from Ford...It's a toss-up between the 1957 Fairlane (Skyliner-with the ORIGINAL retractable hardtop) and the Pantera for me.

I'm going to go with #1, although it isn't the coolest thing I have ever seen. I also like the fact that the GT40 was made in the 60's, but it still looks like a modern car. Its looks aren't outdated yet, and I don't think they will be for a while.

I'm happy that Ford will be producing the GT. Too bad about the "GT40" name though... :(

Moving to the "Cars in General" forum...

I've got mixed emotions about Ford lately, mostly negative.

The "retro" cars look cool, I admit. But the problem is they're using it like a crutch. The T-bird, the new Mustang concepts, the GT... they're not so much a "new, modern update on an old favorite" as a "pretty much straightforward copy of something we already know everybody loves so how can we possibly go wrong" excercise.

That's a cop out and it's lazy. If you can't do that well, you shouldn't just fire your design staff, you should shoot them.

Like everybody, my opinion is somewhere on the favourable side between the two.

That's only because the retro cars are getting the publicity. Since they've started the retro car stuff, they've released as many non-retro, non-publicised cars (new Explorer, new Expedition, new Windstar called 'Freestar,' new F150, etc.)

Gil - top marks that man... :D The two coolest things from Ford IMO are the RS200 (duh! :D) and the Pantera...

I think Ford have started to pull themselves up from "Fix Or Repair Daily" of the 80's. The Focus recently was said to be the most reliable car in German MoT tests (don't know the local equivalents - they're roadworthiness tests carried out on the 3rd birthday of the car, and then every year from then on) - not one Focus had a fault that would cause it to fail the tests... :D Of course reliability isn't top of everyone's list, and the Focus makes more sense in Europe than the US, but you get my point :D

Insurance quotes for the Escort Cosworth are typically more than the value of the car. The Focus RS is a very fast car, but awful, awful torque-steer.

I would get the Cothsworth Ford Focus instead of the RS. Its pretty much the rally car but more street worthy.

I love the GT40. Price doesnt matter to me when it comes to the car itself. IMO it looks great. Nice lines and great curves. Performance isnt that bad either...

None of which I really like, either.

You don't like the new F-150? Ouch - you'd better be the only one, Ford's hanging their future on that truck.

bleh, its cool. it oughta be really fast, and for the specs the have given, it should be very trackworthy... and the power of its supercharger pushing that little weight... and, well... ehem... its lines are timeless. Id buy one.

It's as cool as the GT40 ever was. I.e. massively, hugely, wonderfully.

However, I really think that Ford should have put some of the originality that they're showing in their mainstream cars into this one.

the new gt40 looks so sweet. completely timeless.

as for ford, i wish they would sell some of their good cars over here in europe. things like the mustang and excursion :D. we just get the front wheel drive crap. every time i see a ford Ka i feel like throwing up. which is ok, they can make lame cars like that if they want but they should have a separate division to bring rear wheel drive performance cars back. things to rival the M3 and such. They have as much racing experience as anyone so i don't see why they couldn't.

That's funny. When someone says that Fords are crap, most people say "Well, the American ones are, but the European models are good cars."

Well that could exclude their trucks (some of their early 90's trucks). My Grandfather uses his pretty hard (getting around where there are no roads, pulling some of his cars, various things).

i just noticed ur sig neon,

"One of the reasons it would be difficult to include damage is that, because Gran Turismo is a real driving simulator, we would have to consider damage to be real. I have done experiments, and a very high percentage - maybe 80 percent - of crashes in Gran Turismo will cause the car to fall into pieces maybe two inches big." - Kazunori Yamauchi

i never actually thought about that, but its so true. clipping something and hitting a barrier side on at 180mph would cause your car to disintigrate and you to DIE, forget finishing the race, your savegame would be erased! :D
