Is it just me or does time away from this game make you even quicker?

I hadn't actually played GT3 for 2 and a half months, recently, so I decided to give it a quick blast. I thought I'd be rust. So I tried my favourite license test, the S-6 license at Laguna Seca in the Viper Team Oreca, so I could compare my times with my old speed.

Straight away I was on the pace with a 20.278 first sector. 'Oh' I thought. 'Maybe I'm not so rusty after all!' Tried again, I was sliding a bit too much with the front and rear, and it didn't feel quick, but I got a 20.102! My fastest ever time on the first sector of this test! Thought I'd carry on, got a 37.600 at the second sector! I thought maybe I'd try and beat Edmar's 1:14.330 (impossible, probably), and had a half spin exiting the corkscrew, as I tried to regain the racing line.

But still, it goes to show, I don't think you really do get rusty at this game. In my experience, anyway.

I wish... I hadn't seriously raced GT3 since the Board Challenge before the current one, and I've gotten back in about two weeks ago. I've managed a 1:26.7xx on the S8 license test (Monaco) and a 4:42 for the 10th time trial, but judging by the Weekly Challenge, I'm horribly off pace compared to where I used to be (upper-midpack).

And that's with no setting adjustments. I'm absolute crap with settings.

I find I tend to play any game better with a break from it. I tried to do the license 7B exam.. with the Camaro.. the game was EVIL I say... off by .003 seconds... Came back week later and did it on my 5th or 6th try.. :P

Oh ya time away makes you quicker. I spent a month away from it, then found a PS2 with GT3 at JHU camp. Managed all the licences in half an hour. Spent another month away, then I managed all the TT's in a couple hours (one day at any rate). GT3 is like riding a bike. You don't forget. And that's why it kicks so much ass! (until GT4)

It is impossible to complete all licenses in half an hour.
The actual driving time required to pass each test to gold level takes 31 minutes and 40 seconds. Bronze passes are 2 seconds slower on average and allowing 10 seconds load time between tests adds about 10 minutes. I would say more like 45 minutes to an hour.

Yah. Even though you may have stopped playing for awhile. Your brain is still in essence "practising" the game . Subconsiously your brain is forming neuron connections and such and trying to finish up "organising" all those different factors youve been trying to manage at once while racing. So when you come back to play again after a break you may notice youve gotten somehow better, and its because of this work your brain has been doin during your "off" time. This is true of a whole lot of stuff as our brains werent designed solely for improving our skills at gran turismo, difficult as that may be to believe. :p :)

Well...maybe it was 45 minutes to an hour, but it already had part of the A licence done for me (wasn't my game). So I cheated a little on the timing.

That seems extremely random there Harry :rolleye:

I find myself thinking about how best to attack an actual course or corner in my car, and that translates to GT3 to some degree. That, and I do plot out how I am gonna go thru the game in my head at times...

I don't think time away helps for me. I'm fastest when I do a little bit each day.

I have my moments Azuremen. I was trying to say we tend to exagerate how quickly we finish things to our mates, but would tell the boss the same achievment would take a lot longer. Just me trying to sum up human nature. Go back a few posts to completing all license tests in half an hour.

Saw a show on the making of the new Ford GT (nice car) and at the end they test drove them around Laguna Seca and watching that got my GT brain working. They had marked most of the corners from what I saw with orange corners to indicate the correct line.
Jackie Stewart was one driver invited to test the car, I dont think the cones were meant to help him.

Even more off beat, does any one have a Matchbox Mustang number 8 from 1970 with Superfast wheels up for sale.

It really depend how you actually race...
It might be a question that you feel insecure driving the car might get your time better, because you weren't drive it properly at start. When you enter a corner, you have to make a perfect radius. A proper balance of your braking & acceleration is a must to make faster lap. In my opinion, you might had taken the corner more late & had the perfect balance between the acceleration & the braking, because you weren't rushing the accelerator to make your car understeer or oversteer.

(Note: I'm very skilled...)
