IS it just me or is drafting messed up???

when i race on the test track and when i start to draft, i gain like 30 mph... which is REALLY unrealistic, and there is no drafting when right infront of somone... which is weird
has any one else noticed this?
 
Drafting when right in fron of someone, if your infront you won't draft them, the AI can draft you, I have no problem drafting the AI from right up close. The incrasein speed is upto around 30Kph not Mph, in the PAL version, which is a little overdone but only noticable on the test track.
 
I agree that the drafting is a little exaggerated. You can gain too much speed by drafting in GT3. Maybe it won't be this way in GT4.
 
By drafting do you mean slipstreaming?


moving through someones displaced air thus less resistance = more speed?
 
To be realistic, there really should be a "drafting" speed increase when you're directly in front of another car. Two cars drafting should be faster than a similar car alone, and this certainly seems to be true for the AI when they link up and chase you down on the Test Course.

You're going to have to explain this one to me, I'm afraid.

As far as I'm aware it's only the rear car which receives the benefit, due to reduced air pressure in front of it (or, if they get too close, or too far away, they get boned due to air turbulence from the lead car).
 
If you get too close then it gets worse than not drafting in the first place, I havn't heard of the elad car getting a boost, I know in races like Indycar when 2 cars break away they continuousely overtake each other so they can draft each other which makes them as a pair go quicker but only as far as I know it's only because they are working together.

A car travelling at high speed builds up a high air pressure in front of it, and also a low air pressure behind it. Both of these contribute to aerodynamic drag. If another car follows close behind, the high pressure at the front of the lead car remains the same, but the lower pressure behind the lead car is not as low due to the presence of the following car. To put it simply, the two cars split or share the drag. Two cars, one drag, higher speed for both cars.

Precisely, but the best results you can get in GT3 by being in front is a 'bump-draft', even so it's kinda hard to keep an AI car nice and steady behind you.
